vic. or methadone

Hello!!! would you all plese give me some advice. Im trying to get off vic/loratab. I work full time and can not take off. I know when I stop the painkills Im going to w/d. I have 10 more vic 7.5 . I also have 15 methadone 5mg . Is it true the methadone will stop the w/d or at least help? and how sould I go about it??? thanks for any help you all can give!!

Oh, and you said ur trying to get off vicoden. If you want off of it but have chronic pain you might want to talk to your doctor about a milder opiate like tramadol(ultram) or darvocet. If you want to do away with opiates all together you might ask your doctor about motrin800mg(same as taking 4 advil or motrin-anything over the counter that ingredient is 200mg. of ibubrofen) If you've tried this and it hasn't worked you could ask about naproxen or muscle relaxants like flexeril or something stronger depending on your pain level. Many doctors are complete idiots when it somes to scripts, glad to help whenever you need. I've been blessed to find several very good doctors i've been seeing since childhood

Contrary to a lot of things I have seen posted in these forums and the sheer ignorance I've seen... methodone programs are NOT just fro heroin addicts! My husband is a doctor at a methodone clinic here in town. Methodone is for ANY opiate addiction because it binds to the same receptor sites in the brain as does any opiate (hydrocodone, morphine, codeine, oxycodone/oxycontin, oxymorphone,demerol,dilaudid etc. etc. etc.) So yes the methadone stops the withdrawal symptoms without giving you the high. Yes you can get a high from methadone if you take a large amount but bot the same high as hydrocodone. Remember hydrocodone is a more potent opioid than even codeine making the high so smooth and euphoric! You said you have 7.5/700mg. vicodin meaning 7.5mg of hydrocodone and 700mg. of acetaminophen(tylenol). If I remember correctly you have 10 pills left. Ration them as best you can(take half your normal dose or so). You might not get high like you want but it will keep you from withdrawing. If you run out before you get a refill, use the methadone in as small an amount as possible to keep you from withdrawing until you can get another script.

How many do u usually take and for how long?  That may help ppl who have some ideas, if you don't mind me asking....  Im sure you will get more responses once the night owls get here.  AND, those answers may help.
