vic withdrawal notsobad

I have been taking vicodin for about 4 years..I had a couple of brief stints off of it but never more than a week or so.  I have been wanting to quit for a long time but my mind kept telling me that it would be to painful and that I wouldn't be able to function without the drug.  I got progressively worse and finally found myself using the cold water extraction to enhance the buzz.  This occured about a month ago.  That is when I really knew that I was in trouble and that what was next I could not even imagine.  I have not had a drink in 10 years and am terrified that I will pick up eventually and let me tell you I CAN NOT DRINK without death being right behind.
Anyways, I decided a couple of weeks ago that I had to quit the pills.  I researched some and I stocked up on Soma and Valium and a variety of other things to get me through.  Well I must tell you I am on day 3 and it really hasn't been bad.  I took the valium on day one out of terror and so I slept a lot day 2 I really didn't take anything until bed time to help me sleep. It is the beginning of day 3 and while I don't feel like a million bucks I am not in hell either.  In fact I am on my way to an AA meeting and feeling like my mind is clear.  I know that this is a thinking disease and if I want to stay sober I have to work a program.  I am writing this post for those who are as terrified as I was about withdrawal it really isn't so bad.  You can do it.  Get help and get your life back you deserve it.

Hey Tabitha,
I too am in Houston.
U need to taper down. How much are you using and did the doctors put you on those horrid drugs?
Explain more, and please start a new thread so that everyone can help you. Hit "post a question" and title it something like : To anybody listening!!!
I would suggest getting off of them immediately if you just came from detox.
I am on day one of CT, but i tapered down from 40 lortabs to 3....then flushed the rest yesterday...
If i can, you can. I promise. Post everything you feel and we will carry you thru it , i promise.

It is a way to get the APAP out of the vicodin to get the full hit from it without hurting your liver...stay away it is just the next step in the addiction.

I need meetings for sure and have to keep praying everyday...I feel so much better already it is unreal.  I was sober for 5 years before the slow progression of pill popping started and my disease had me fooled...I could function.  What a mess. I just want to feel again and be sober again.  So far not so bad with the withdrawal believe me I have had worse hangovers from coke binges...

Congrats on taking back your life.  Sounds like you know what you have to do and am really glad to see you reaching out and getting some aftercare.  It is very common to switch addictions after we give one up.  I too am a recovering alcoholic and my meetings have helped me stay in my recovery from that as well.  Keep posting          sara
