vic withdrawl and RLS

Im in desperate need of help/suggestions. I've been on Vicodin for the past 6 yrs now due to lower back pain disk pain and Im always finding myself short because im a addict, just this past weekend *saturday 20th 2013* I was down to 3 tabs so i broke them in half and took half every 12 hrs by sunday I was out and now Im dealing with those annoying rls sleep very little maybe 3 hrs a night, And during the day my anxiety hits me like a brick wall, I am on ativan but im finding myself wanting to take more because of the anxiety attacks. Ive never had this rls befor and its working on  my insanity. I try so hard not to think about it but then i start the stupid thinking like i know so and so who have them but then i listen to my gut and say NO and i start to cry because i cant take this. I feel like banging my head on the wall just to knock my self out to sleep, I get so tired dog tired where i cant even walk but i cant fall asleep and stay asleep, I feel so helpless at this point, I kicked the vic habbit 2 yrs ago then i had a horiable fall and that set me back and here i am once again, How long will this insomnia and rls last this will be day 3 for me and each day it just seems its getting worse will it ever get better ????

Hi Cry. The sell a product called Hyland restful leg You can get it at any drug store It helps with the rls so does hot showers and baths as many as you can take !! Congrats on 3 days You are almost thru the worst of it.. Bananas would also help as you need the potassium Eat small healthy meals and walk outside if you can It helps more then anything.. In a couple more days you will start to feel a lot better but sleep will be elusive for awhile.. The back pain will also be worse for a couple of days but this may even be better then what you think when this is all said and done. we call that rebound pain.. Anyway A hot shower our bath will help a lot and make sure to drink, a Sports drink is best,  You do not want to become dehydrated It makes everything worse.. Whoo Hoo you are almost Free !! Congrats !! lesa

Yes, it will get better and better. Vics are fast acting and fast to leave your system. Day 3-7 is often the worst of it, then it slowly gets better. Most of the physical symptoms will be gone within 2 wks. The mental part is what takes more time and effort. I had horrible anxiety after detox of methadone. As I learned about addiction and what was happening to me and learned why I used, the anxiety faded. Counseling and 12 step meetings helped me form coping skills and how to recognize my triggers. Talking with addicts with some clean time really helps. It gave me a spark of hope, when I had none. Stay hydrated, drink protein drinks if you can't eat. As for sleep, that just takes some time, but it's doable. I know you feel crazy, but it will pass. Keep focused and try to hit a meeting. Take walks and try to stay busy, doing anything, but try not to focus on how you feel. You will not regret any of it. My life is better than it has been in many years. It's only been a year clean, but I have my whole life ahead of me now. You will have that too.
