Hello, I've been reading your posts and I wish you both all the luck. I am a recoverying addict of our friendly white/yellow pill. I was taking Vicoden/Norco and Soma every 2-3 hours. I finally feel better today. My last pill was April 17, 2003. I had horrible leg cramps and headaches. My doctor prescribed clondin patch, which helped a lot with feeling sick and my heart beating out of my chest.

I started feeling withdrawl symp. about 15 hours after my last dose. The worst seem to be day 3-6.

Every time I detoxed it got harder on my body. Ten years ago, I didn't have any problem quitting a 30-40 Vicoden ES habit a day (I had been taking for 2 years). Now it kills me. Getting older sucks.

I can suggest taking hot bathes and trying to do some exercise. This will help with the leg cramps and sleeping for at least a couple of hours at a time. I know exercising sounds completely impossible, but if you can you will feel better.

I never took any vitamins, but after reading through this forum, it sounds like it could of helped.

I am now taking subutex and it seems to be helping. I don't have the physical cravings. I do still think and wish I had some more Vicoden, I know in time this feeling with come less and less often. I was clean for almost 7 years.

If you have any questions or concern, I'd be happy to share.

Take care and good luck.

Withdraws, for me anyhow, were within 3-5 hours and it took about 7 fricken hours for them to get my meds, but man that sure helped (but again, only took edge off)  I'm now about 10 days in and having extreme anxiety (which is when I used most) but I'm trying like you, to get through.  It's rough but have to realize that it doesn't come thru a pill....easy said.

good luck, keep us posted...

You said you friend took 24 and was still lucid. That april i attempted suicide.  I took 40 vicodine and 30 valium and was awake and lucide and know one could tell.  I ended up leter that night being rushed to the emergency room because I got in my car and drove and got in an accident.  Thats whe they found out what I did and pumped my stomache.  I had to stay in a psych hospital for 3 weeks.  So yes it is possible to survive it.  But I do believe god has a part in saving you to because its not your time to go

Thanks for your advise. I'm realy scared. I'm really wanting it right now and I'm trying real hard not to take any. I feel ok so far but it's only the first day. I know I have to quit so I just keep praying.

Question....When do you start feeling withdraws?.....How long does it take?

Philly gal, I am right there with you.  Depression and withdraw... and I live in philly as well.

I have been abusing medication for most of my life.  I used to eat lots of vicodin until I tried oxys then there was no going back.  I got to tell you that you should get your liver checked.  I was told by my doc that my liver is not fuctioning properly anymore. I should add that I used to drink between 6 and 12 beers a night although the doctor was convinced it is because of the pills.

I know that tuffing it out at work can be tuff.  When I desided that I had enough I talked to my boss and he gave me time to get the real help I needed.  that was about 6 months ago and I have since relasped (about 2-3 weeks ago).

I wish you lots of luck. We are all here for you.

Gosh darn it! I am so sorry for the multiple repeated replies!!  (and I'm totally sober! hehe)  I also was hoping the Doc or others might have further info for me on what to expect now that I've officially left detox from Vicodin and have 7 days under my belt.  Today my nerves were wrecked and was so jittery and antsy.  I finally asked the nurse for clonopine so i took one a couple hours ago and that seems to have helped.  Will this go on for some time or will I start to notice a difference in a week or so?  My main concern is this was what really made me reach for another Vicodin and I do have one sitting in my bathroom (I know, I should flush the damn thing down the camode) but haven't and don't want to take it. Geez, think I just gave myself some advice in that last sentence, huh?
Well, would appreciate some further knowledge...

Thanks all..

Mesay,
I am by no means an expert able to give advice, but if you cannot go Cold Turkey (which is very painful for most) or into detox (which I did and it was super beneficial, but still no breeze) try getting the Thomas Recipe (listed on this site in threads many times)
Can anyone post the recipe for Mesay again?

Stay strong, I'm only 7 days clean from Vicodin

hi everyone I am new here and all the stories have been great.. My story is real similar to all of yours. First I am a 22 year old male and have had diabetes for 9 years. It all started 2 years ago with extreme back pain. My doctor put me on a low dose every 4 to 6 hours. It made me feel awsome. It seemed everything was clear in my head. I was happy. I also have anxiety which I take paxil for. but I was happy I felt better I could move around better. I don't know how it all happened cause it is blurry but that one pill that felt great turned into 2 pills every 4 to 6 hours then I would catch myself just wating for 4 hours. Well like i said it is blurry but the doctor kept me on them just as much. He never told me how addicting they were except be careful. I had no idea until today that u go thru these withdrawls. after reading all of your letters. well my doctor quit his practise but i still found the pills. In dec of 2002 I ran out and decided I was done. SO 3 days after not taking the pills I fell into what was said to be a diabetic coma. I was in pain, had the shakes, vomiting, dirreaha, leg cramps, and shallow breathing. so my girlfriend rushed me to er and I was crying in pain. They gave me morphine which knocked me out. I saw a new doctor and he continued my vicoden in the hospital and called it a diabetic coma. I went home took the vics and ran out again. so guess what i was back in on Dec 22. again diabetic coma. again more vics and now Today I ran out and read this and found out the withdrawls put me in a coma cause of the vomiting and dirreah. I have no doctor to talk to.
I am unemployed and I am terrified about what is going to happen to me I am even now checking the blackmarket for vicoden. diabetes and this addiction are not going together. can anyone help??????  thank u tim u can write in here or email me at ***@****

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Have you tried tapering off the Vicodin slowly? also, can you get any excercise, even mild walking?

I am sure that the ER cannot refuse you if you get sick. I think the key is to give your pills to someone who will control your consumption.

Can you levek with a family member, pastor, or doctor? Explain what has happened?

Let us know, OK?

Take good care, and God bless......

I was diagnosed with several bulging disc about 1 year ago. The Dr.prescribed oxycode 40 mg. every 12 hours which helped with the pain. Then my husband became very ill. We were both out of work and lost our insurance. Needless to say we could not go to the M.DNow I can not get the medicine I need and I have been having withdrawals. What do I do? Iknow Iam addicted now along with the pain I already have.

If anyone has encouraging words, please email me at "***@****" thanks everyone.
