Just read your post, and it caught at my heart strings when you mentioned being "ashamed".  I, too, feel like a total fool, and like you, ashamed.  At 52 now, I should have known better.  I am starting my weaning from Lamictal.  I also take Lyrica, Klonopin, and Zoloft.  I'm starting with the Lamictal, but I want off this entire merry-go-round that is not merry at all!!!!  My point here is that I should not have accepted so easily the prescriptions for these psych meds I have been taking since 1995 when I started the Zoloft.  Several months ago I was completely out of Klonopin for two days, and the withdrawal was HORRIBLE.  I so hate being dependent upon all of this ****.  And, I did it to myself.  BUT, we're human, and we all have weaknesses.  I'm trying not to beat myself up too much, and hope that you will do the same.
Peace.

Hey There..
I am still using Vicodin but also have tried to stop several times in the past. I have done both cold turkey and also weened myself down to 1-2 a day. Everytime I would get body aches and a fever around the 3-4th day. I have been taking 750mg Vicodin for backpain for 6-7 years. I am getting ready (mentally) to stop again & this time for good. I am so tired of talking about it and having it be a part of my life. I would not drink too much caffeine if possible. I would also watch your sugar intake. I would try and drink as much water as possible and take an ibuprofen for the body aches. It will help...

Best of Luck...

Hi chigirl, Congratulations on your 9 days clean. This is a very good thing you are doing. Most of us do not have full blown withdrawals by day 9 and you would not get a fever with withdrawals either. You may just have a virus in addition to your withdrawals. I have had a fever, sore throat and congestion for almost a week now. It's that time of year....it really stinks getting something right after wd though. How high is your temp? Sometimes in early wd...right after detox I would experience the symptoms in the morning and feel better at night. This was true for the mental part too. The fatigue, anxiety and feeling blue was much worse in the morning. With you running a fever, I would bet you also have a bug. Hope you are well soon. This is very worth it in the long run and we will help you through any tough times. GBU, Corey

What you're going through right now is the addiction trying to suck you back in. Ask ANYONE here on the forums that has known me since day one here on the forums and they will tell you that I had these "flashbacks" when I would be able to have these accessable to me. I was in a car accident this past week that left me with over 20 stitches in my arm and excruciating pain -- when the doctor heard I was an addict [because we told him this while in the ER] he still wrote and sent me home with Vicodin, because he said I would need them whether I thought I would or not. As soon as we got home, I posted here on the forums and asked what to do. I flushed them down the toilet. I have never been prouder of myself, and I know that you can do this as well.

If you need a support group to get through this, then you have definately come to the right place. This site will become your support group and your saving grace,

YES definitly flush them!!! You've come this far, no point in starting over now. If you can make it through tonight, then tomorrow will be a new day. You should really flush those pills, don't even let your head start thinking about what you could do with them. Just get rid of them and keep fighting. Your over a week clean now, so the worst should be behind you. Youll start to feel better with each day. Try to do something tonight to distract yourself. Go to a movie, or maybe out to dinner, or something. Maybe try to go to bed earlier and just end this day.

You're right, you're not to old to start living a normal life at all. It's never too late to change your life around for the better. And you should try to put the shame to the side. There's no point in feeling shame, you should feel good that you have the strength to make this choice and get sober. That takes a lot right there. When I was really nauseas and couldn't eat I would get Jamba smoothies everyday with protein boosts. That way you can get some nutrition and the smoothies are usually easier to stomach. How are you feeling now?

Im 41yom and been 9 days for me, feel flush sometimes during day, like hot face. But, if thats all thats left of the physical - We're in good shape in comparison. As I look at new people or current ones re going through this, it enforces where I am today and helps me to move forward. So, I guess answer to your question - Normal. I tool for over 8 years, its gonna take some time for some of the things to go away, they too will pass. Keep up the good fight

Hey, congrats on one week off vicodin! That is an accomplishment right there! The Wd's are miserable yes, but there are some ways to help ease them a bit. Hot baths/shower, heating pad (that really helped my restless legs), excercise (if you can). There are also some vitamins that help with depression and anxiety. Melatonin will help you sleep, although if you take xanax you prob don't have much trouble sleeping. WIth each day though the wd's will fade and things will get better. Congrats on one week!! Keep posting on here, it's incredible how much support and help you will find.
