Hi
You have posted on an old thread.. You will get a lot more response if you post a new question. At the top of page there is a link that says post a question.. In the meantime welcome and Vicodin was my dependency too.. The initial WD process lasts about a week days 2-4 are usually the worse. There are some supplements to help with discomfort that many use and have found effective.. On the bottom of this page is the Thomas Recepie click on that link for the list of supplements.. In the meantime know that you will be so happy once you have stopped taking them and the discomfort is worth the end result. Best wishes!

I am 51 and have been taking Vicodin for about 3 years now for knee pain.  I'm up to 12 a day of the 10mg x 325s.  If I don't take them I feel very sick.  How long does the sick feeling last if I stop could turkey?

The best thing for you to do is take the safest route.  Talk to the doctor at your next appointment and let him know you want to stop taking them, you feel you are addicted.  If you quit cold turkey serious side effects and even a trip to the emergency room might happen.  He may slowly cut back your dose until you are at one a day and than none.  Or he might even give you some Valium to keep the withdrawls down, but again, they are addictive so plase, take my advice and talk to your doctor.  If you don't have an appointment, make one, don't page him and talk to him on the phone because he will take it lightly and give you a two second response because he is on the phone.  Make an appointment and let him know how serious you are.

Email me if you have more questions or are going through DT's which will problably happen anyway.  I will be glad to be a friend too you as I am going through the withdrawl process myself, but I talked to my doctor first and he has me on Valium because I was taking 60 pills in two to three days the pain was intense.
