vomitng blood

I'm an alcoholic. I'm 46 yrs. old. This past week, I've thrown up blood twice. Both times occurred when I hadn't had anything to eat all day, just drank many beers. After vomiting, I've tried eating but my throat hurts pretty bad while swallowing. After both incidences, the next day, I've felt fine. I did not have any stomach pain before I threw up but rather had more of a feeling of acidity in my chest or esophagus.

Don't waste time, go to your doc now! Or look up your neighborhood for the nearest free clinic and set up an appointment asap! (posting about this on the forum was like me posting about shingles on above my hip) No one could guess that because my age. (shocker it can occur in young adults too), and nobdy could make it go away either. I had to wait for 4+ hours at a free clinic but it was worth getting the right meds.

As quoted from that article I linked:
"When to see your doctor

Consult your doctor immediately if you notice blood in your vomit or begin vomiting blood. These symptoms may indicate a serious problem that needs urgent treatment."

usarmymedic1 has a point:
If your blood is bright red, then it's likely occuring before the stomach.
If it is black then it is happening after the stomach.

I posted in your alc, thread. Here's a link to follow:

i had this problem , they did an "endoscopy" . this is where they put u out and run a camera down your throat. i had a bleeding ulcer, which they stiched shut in a later procedure. the most pain of it all was before the scope, i hated the puking. after the stiching they put me on prevacid, and all is well in the stomach department now. so , call your doctor, this isnt something to try to self medicate, or see if it gets better . it needs medical attention. good luck

The most dangerous thing it could be is a bleeding esophageal varice. If that is the case it could be life threatning without treatment. It is most likley an ulcer but you cant till until you get it checked out. OlyAddict

You need to get that checked out...not a good sign to be vomiting blood...alcoholics are prone to intestinal bleeds...go have it checked out....and I guess you already know drinking aggravates this condition..keep posting
