weaning off oxycontin

ok, i am 22 year old college student and i have been using oc for  almost a year. it started out every now and then, but this past summer i began snorting pretty much everyday. usually only 40 mg a day, sometimes a little more. i decided to quit after i had a binge all weekend. I was clean sunday and did not feel great, but not terrible. yesterday i woke up with terrible diarrhea and felt lethargic all day. i took some adderall and a couple tylenol and felt good enough to finally eat yesterday afternoon, but by the night time i felt like death. i decided that maybe i should try to cut down my dose over a week or so instead of going cold turkey, so i did about 20mg last night. I still felt the urge for more, but instead i took a xanax and went to sleep. i know this may be a stupid thing to try and do, but i am trying to finish college right now and going insane for a week while i have exams is not appealing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I do not typically have an addictive personality as i have done almost every drug in the book without ever consistently using, but oc is terrible and all my friends that i live with use it too.

hi look you are an addict, i am as we speak weaning myself of of oxys, i dont snort them, i do cut them in half. i have been addicted to other opiates in the past and i did try numerous times to get clean around my active b/f, freinds ect, IT DOES NOT WORK!!
you at least to go thru the w/d should find some other place to get thru it, after that its mental. I have gotten off methadone and stayed off everything until i got hurt this summr, it can be done, you have to be strong, it will pass, stop snorting now, that is making it all worse, i hope this helps you, i would try to  find a new place to live, itsgoing to be extremly hard to stay there and not use, even after you detox, your addiction will tell you youcan do it. but its nerly impossible it was for me. maybe since im starting my detox this weekend we can help eachother, please contact me if you need to chan

STOP SNORTING NOW.  if you are going to wean yourself off you need to swallow the pill.  the sorting release the meds all at once...to give you the rush...i know i did it.  but, if you are ever going to get clean you will have to find new roommates.  as an addict you have to distance yourself from drugs...good luck and we are here to help.

I use to think that I didn't have an addictive personality because I never had a problem with drugs in my past... that was until opiates were introduced to me. For me- opiates were the devil. I think for you to really get off oxy's- you might need to go somewhere else, considering the people you live with actively use. I've tried getting clean with other addicts before, and it never worked. You might have to find refuge somewhere other than your house to atleast get over the withdrawals. Unfortunately even once you get past that- the mental part is just as bad. Keep posting and good luck.

If you are able to wean yourself then be all means do so.  Keep yourself on a strict regimine, myself, If I had the pills  i took them. Wds aere horrible, however you will get through them.  Drink plenty of water, Take immodium for the diarreah, and any Ibuprofin to help with the body aches.  Pretend you have the flu and within 3 days you should start to feel better.  Life without the drugs is better.  I used ativan, to help me sleep therough the wds, which is in the valume family and it helped.  Good luck to you, continue with this forum and it will help you too.
