Don't let the above posts scare you. Many people have went cold turkey off of a much higher dose including myself. If you have some underlying medical conditions such as your low blood pressure you really need to work with your doctor on this. As for suboxone, that is a very strong opiate and you would have to eventually taper off of that. I have heard many people say oxy withdrawal was a walk in the park compared to suboxone withdrawal. Why take another pill to try and get off of one. Many times it's just switching addiction. I have never been on suboxone so I'm just going by what I have read on here and I've read quite a few scary stories about it. It does have it's place though. You are not on a enormous amount of oxy so I personally wouldn't go that route. I have a friend on here who was taking over 300mg of oxycontin a day and he went cold turkey. He is now 3 weeks clean. I'm not saying it is not a option but make sure you do plenty of research before making a educated decision. Everyone's body is different and what works for one may not work for another. I value everyone's opinion but just be sure to do your homework. If you do a slow taper off of the oxy's, you'll do okay.
I'll get back shortly....my daughter needs to use the computer...Hasta La Wedgie 'til then....Thanks folks...I'll be back on in an hour or so. Paul(Pugs)
ps...for the record...i'm a bloke. not a mum but a dad and mum! Paul
I also have low blood pressure already so am not sure if clonadine would be suitable. Also...I don't know your American terms ie nitrate!! Sorry, I'm just a dumb Aussie(Australian)!
i'm on 40mg twice a day...from Pugsley108
withdrawal is the most horrrible thing you will ever go thru. Seek appropriate medical help and ask about Suboxone........it saved my life. I tried to down titrate myself, but I failed and it almost cost me my life. I wish you the best.

There are lots of different ways. Lots of people say to cut down by 20% every 5 days or so. I cut down by 10mg every 2 weeks. Takes about 5 days to get used to the lower dosage and then have some time off. Once I got down to 40 mg I switched to percocets and am now decreasing by 1 pill every 4 days. This has worked for me with the support and supervision of my doctor and pharmacy.
Sometimes this isnt a good option becuase you could lose focus along the way and decide to stay at the lower dosage, but thats just head games and the pills will grab on to you again harder.
So you can be feel ucky for a long time or feel like UCK for a shorter time. You decision but weaning down any at all will help.
there is also a blood pressure med called clonadine thats helpful too. But the best thing is to talk to your doctor or some other support. You can do it, us mothers can do just about anything if we believe it will help our kids!! Doesnt mean its easy, but its doable.
You said oxycodone? That is seriously strong stuff. And you said if i drop 10mg every couple days which leads me to assume you are taking between 40 to 60 mg a day?If you quit and you are addicted to that much oxy the withdrawal will make you wish you were dead. One 80mg oxy is like taking 16 percocets at once.Percocet is twice as strong as norcos. My first withdrawal was from 12 vicodins a day 5mg 500s and a liquid form of oxycodone called roxycodone.I required an emergency room visit and 8 days in an inpatient detox hospital. You need to taper off but not so fast.Try dropping 5mg a week till you are down to 1mg a day.You can use a pill cutter to cut them into smaller pieces. Then .05 mg a day then quit altogether. You may still get a little sick but nothing like the agony you will suffer if you try to quit oxy cold turkey.
thanks bmdad..I'm on oxycontin at 40mgs twice a day. I think you call it oxycodone or something similar in the U.S.
What kind of pain meds are you taking and what mg? How many do you take a day and how often? If you can answer these questions we can help you come up with a good taper plan. I once tapered in the past and felt little to no withdrawals. Some say cold turkey is the best way to just get it over with fast. It all depends on the individual. This forum is a great place for support!
Best of luck to you!
