what's o.k. to take

I have the worst toothache ever and I don't want to take anything narcotic.  Does anyone know something safe and over the counter to take for a toothache.  The sad thing is I don't want to go to the dentist either because I am scared he will give me a r/x.  Thanks for your help.

If you do take Tylenol you're not supposed to take more than 4 grams or 4000 milligrams a day because Tylenol can cause liver damage and Motrin can cause kidney damage but I'm sure you don't need to take it long term. Hope you feel better :(

They have a bunch of stuff for toothaches over the counter, my boyfriend uses them all the time, just go look at the grocery store, I don't know what it's called but you but it on your tooth with a qtip and it numbs it for a while. It helps him at least

Hey - you should try ibuprofen (advil) - you can take like 6 or 8 of them and believe it or not - ambesol or some kind of numbing stuff.. it can really help in a jam.  You might need to go to the dentist but just tell him/her that you do not take any narcotic pain meds and if he hands you a script anyway (I had one do that once - while on subs nonetheless-even though we discussed the subs in detail) then just leave it at his office or even better maybe have someone with you who you can hand it to who knows to shred it.
