Hi darkestyet,
I live in Chicago myself and I had a similar problem, was addicted to vicodin for three years. I know what you are going through exactly. I found this program which is outpatient. They ise suboxone for treatment. It is the latest treatment available there I think. They first see you with a doctor and then you have your own private nurse 24/7 available to help you. That was the greatest part for me. Sometimes I would start feeling bad and I would find help just with a phone call. So I am all clean now and I recommend them to anyone having trouble. I am not sure if I can post the company names here, so please pm me for the company name.
Another option would be suboxone. You can check out the suboxone website for details about it and locate a doctor in your area that can prescribe it. Check out suboxonetalkzone.com to get more info on it. I treated my problem with it and I have to tell you to at least research it and consider it. If you have any questions on it, feel free to hit me up. Congrats on taking those first steps. Good luck.

You could try going cold turkey and using the Thomas Recipe that they have posted on this site. People that have used it swear by it. It won't get rid of all of your withdrawal symptoms but they make them a little easier to handle. You could also do a taper and reduce bit by bit so make the withdrawals not as bad. For the taper you might want to go see your dr and tell him what you want to do and he could give you enough for the taper. They say that reducing your pill intake by 10% a week is a good taper. Not to fast so you feel crappy all the time but not so slow that it would take you a year to get off of it. But how you do it depends on if you can trust yourself to taper and not just take more at the first sign of withdrawal. If you have someone to help you they can hold onto the bottle and dispense them to you according to your tapering schedule. But if you do decide to go cold turkey there are somethings your doctor can prescribe to help like clonodine. It is a blood pressure medication but is widely used to help with withdrawal symptoms. Also some take valium or xanax or some type of benzo to help with the anxiety, but you have to be careful with these because these are also addictive so they are best just to be used maybe just for you first week then taper off of those. These are just some options. I hope have given you some information that will help in your deciding how you would like to get off the pain meds. There will also be other people along that will have more and different information for you. I wish you the best and keep on posting these are great people here who are here to help you in any way they can.
