withdrawls

First day without lortab and I have been in the bathroom on amd off all day. I have been taking lortabs for about nine months now but never any more than four a day. 7.5 mg or 10mg, whatever I could get my hands on. I'm scared to death at what has yet to come. Im a single mother of two and have no other option but to make it through this. Could anyone please tell me how long this will last? I can see that I did not take as many as most so I guess I'm hopin, praying and keeping my fingers crossed that that will help me with the withdrawals. Or should I expect it to be just as much hell for me as it has been for someone that was taking more?

Hi Riley and welcome . .. you have made the right decision to get these pills out of your life for good and very smart to do it now, before you get in too deep.  The withdrawals usually last between 5 to 7 days; with the peak or worst of it at about day 2 - 3.  The exact length and intensity of symptoms is different for everyone; even people who go through it more than once may have different symptoms each time.  The fact that you have not used for very long or at high doses will hopefully work to your advantage here.  There are many things you can do to ease the symptoms.  Have you checked out the Thomas recipe?  It is a "protocol" for w/d from opiates.  There is a link to it on the bottom right of this page.  Also check out the amino acids protocol for suggestions of supplements and things that can help to ease w/d and some of the ups and downs that can linger after the physical stuff is gone.

For right now, just do what you can to make yourself comfortable and know that these are merely SYMPTOMS.  They are normal and they are temporary.  Try to keep yourself as busy as possible.  A hot/warm tub soak w/some Epsom salts will go a LONG way to help relax you and ease any aches and pains you have.  Light a candle, play some soothing music - whatever will help you to relax.  It is really important that you keep yourself hydrated and eat - even though you probably don't feel like it.  Protein drinks are great if you cant do food for the first day or so.  As soon as you can manage, get some fresh air and exercise; even a short walk will do wonders.  I found that magnesium 1000mg before bed, helped with sleep and restless legs.  I also like the "sleepytime teas".  Again, anything that works for you.  It WILL get better.  The investment of a few days feeling crumby is well worth the reward of a clean and sober future!  Keep by this site and post with any questions you have ok?  Hang in there ......you are gonna be fine :))
