xanax withdraw

i've been taking xanax off and on for 10 years.  The past 6 months i took the most that i ever took (4mg/day) for anxiety and hives.  i decided to try and get pregnant and my doctor tapered me completely off of xanax.  I started 5/3 and ended 5/13.  My withdraw is horrible.  I'm nauseous, feel my back aching and burning, can barely sleep, feel depressed and cranky.  There was a time in this life when i didn't take xanax and could feel moments of pleasure.  How long will it take for my body to readjust again and not feel sick most of the time? I am on 90 mg of cymbalta but still feel lousy. Does each day get better? i hope so.

I was Rx Xanax years ago (1985) because I had terrible anxiety attacks.  I was to the point of passing out and looking like I was having a seizure. I was also was terrified of going outside due to something bad that happened to me one evening while out.  Every test was done on me...they ruled it anxiety.  Dr. gave me Xanax .50 mg and told me to take one in the morning and one in the evening. I did this for 6 months, then totally stopped. 6 months later, I needed them again.  But a new doctor wanted me on them 4x a day - regular dose.  That made me too tired..so I just didn't take them like that.  I only took one a day.  This went on for years and years with me- 6 months on - 6 months off.

I rememebr my doctor (the first one--I got her back)- she told me she had never seen anyone who could just STOP the Xanax like I did.  She said when people go off these they really need to do a real slow taper for it to be effective. She even told me she had one lady who was down to 1/2 of a .25 a day and she checked into a rehab place to get off that because she couldn't follow a taper dose at home.

Why don't you call your doctor tomorrow and ask about how you are feeling?  Was this a psychatrist or a primary care doctor who precribed this to you? If it was the shrink, they should know about the slow taper.

I just remember hearing how Xanax is so hard to come off of.  Good luck sweetie.

ses, that is a very quick taper for ten years of usage .Its going to take time benzo withdrawl lasts a while . An electric blanket works great for the body aches ,it maybe summer but I would still try it.This wont last forever ,then when you get over this you can work on having a baby it will make it all worth it.

I know nothing about benzo withdrawal but it is weird...i just got off the phone with a chronic relapser of opiates...used for over 10 years...she has been clean 2 years...she is kind of like my sponsor...i asked her how long it took before she did not crave and would not think about getting pills or even stealing them from friends ):  she said 6 months.....1 year til she could have them in her house like after her husband had surgery and not take any of them but still she was tempted a bit...benzos also affect receptors in the brain so it may be comparable...as far as feeling better...the people who posted on this in the past seemed to feel better and better as time went on kinda like with opiates...perhaps someone with a benzo addiction can post 4 u...good luck
