Hi my husband is a recovering addict currently on methadone.he has had a few lapses but is currently back on track.I was just wondering if I could get some information about ibigaine?he is tired of taking methadone and feels he has just changed from illegal substance(heroine)to a legal one(methadone).is ibigaine legal in south africa and how do we go about obtaining it?please help!I am rather desperate.

Methadone is a very long acting opiate and I would suggest that he is off of it for at least 2(two) weeks prior to the first dose of Naltrexone. Otherwise he may experience severe withdrawal symptoms. Is Vivitrol injection (one month depot shot) available in South Africa? That is the best way of therapy if an implant is unavailable. Thank you so much Dr.Aharonov for the info,much appreciated.can you tell me how long does my husband have to be off methadone before he can try naltrexone?he has an appointment with his doctor in early May and I'm trying to get as much info together so we can decide the best way forward.I am so glad I stumbled onto this site.

You  are absolutely right that substituting an illegal opiate with methadone does not make one clean. Methadone is still a heavy duty drug and extremely hard to get off of.
Now. you asked about Ibogaine. There are some clinics in South Africa  as well as other countries experimenting with this drug. You may be able to find one near you.
Since I am in the US, and it is illegal here, I will not pretend to know very much about it. I do know that whereas it has been shown to be useful in detox, it also has been found to have many dangerous side effects including cardiac arrhythmias and neuronal degeneration.
