Advice for a writer from professional doctors?

Hello, I am David and I am a writer. In the book I am working right now, the hero eventually gets arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. While being in jail he decides to commit suicide but he needs it to be in a painless way. I was having in mind something like taking drugs which will get him to sleep and then after a few minutes just kill him, straight up, just painless. But, I am not at all familiar with medicine in general so that is where professional doctors like you come to help me. Please propose drugs that can be taken oral, because drug injection might be difficult to happen since there is no syringe access in jail for inmates (for obvious reasons). I would also like to know if the medicine you will suggest to me is possible to be found a jail's pharmacy, or would I have an "outside friend" provide these for my hero in jail.
Thank you in-advance for all the help.

PS: I am terribly sorry about the section I posted my question but there was no "General Medicine" in the sections.

Yes, fair enough and I really am sorry for a) the section I posted my question and b) if I offended anyone. Right now I'm sending you an e-mail. Thank you.
