Need Help ASAP - Test scheduled Monday

I am taking Suboxone - 12 mg./day. I suffered a fall recently and x-rays show a fractured vertebra and 3 dislocated vertebrae.  Because of symptoms indicating nerve involvement my physician has ordered a closed MRI. I tried to do it on Wednesday of this past week and they didn't get me into the machine to my waist before I freaked out and insisted on being pulled back out. Unfortunately, because of the injury and my symptoms, the physician needs a closed MRI - the opening is a mere 21". Even blindfolded I could feel it closing in around me.  I have to stay in it for min 25 mins.

My Dr. prescribed me 3 Valiums (5 mg.) and told me to take 1 an hour before the procedure, if still nervous a 2nd in 30 mins and a 3rd if STILL afraid.  I've never taken a Valium (or anything similar) so have no idea how it will affect me. I asked my Suboxone prescribing physician if it was okay to take them and his answer was "It should be okay." I did not think that was a reassuring answer.  I called the makers of Suboxone and didn't really get any good information from them, either.  I was told that there ARE patients on both Suboxone and Valium.  However, I am asking about a one time thing for a medication I've never taken.

My question is this: Will I be okay taking this medication while on Suboxone?  I've lost many nights of sleep worrying about this.  Without taking something there is NO WAY I can have this MRI done and I MUST have it done.

I am in a very difficult situation and any help, advice, suggestions, information, etc. would be so greatly appreciated!!

Yes, Valium and Suboxone do not interfere with each other. They affect different CNS receptors, so you will be just fine. Your overwhelming anxiety is what is not allowing you to relax in the first place. Let yourself be and allow yourself to relax Nothing bad will happen to you in the MRI machine. The Valium will work beautifully and you will relax through the procedure.
Good luck and stay well.
