Dear Matt,
As a mother, my heart is aching for you. I wish there was an easy solution for this situation. You did not tell me how old your son is and how long he has been doing this. I can only tell you as a physician, that most people using drugs, especially heroin, use them to numb some kind of psychological problem or trauma. He may have depression or bipolar disorder, he may have had some other psychiatric issue, but no one starts using drugs because he is content and fulfilled with his life.
He needs to acknowledge that he has a problem. That is the necessary first step without which no intervention can take place. You can try to take him to a psychiatrist or an NA meeting. You can find the nearest NA on line and they may have some suggestions for you.
I understand your love for your child and I understand that it may hurt to turn him out, but that may become your only option, if nothing else works. He may need to understand how horrible life is on drugs and without your support. When he hits bottom, he may be ready to talk. I will be very happy to help you at that point and talk about detox and recovery. I do hope everything turns out well for you and your child. May G-d bless you and your family.
