cant finish methadone home detox

ive been on methadone for 16 years. i used to be on 80 or 100 mls. now i am on 4 physeptone tablets a day=sometimes i am down to 3 and a bit. but i have been stuck on this amount for a year and serious depression and chronic low self esteem stops me going down further.

i am having difficulty in knowing what is me and mental health problems and what is the effect of this methadone. i am always alright in the mornings but by the afternoon my mind set is wobbling quite a bit- by the evening my own mind is in turmoil and i just cant find an balance- solace or peace

i know that methadone is surpressing and depressing my natural energy- and i am in a cycle of having low self esteem because i am on methadone but if i reduce lower than the amount that i am on now i get suicidal almost.

i would just like to be off of this stuff- i hate what it does to me- it makes me feel mentally ill and it makes me physically ill too.

i dont get any help from doctors- they are just as baffled as i am - and drug counselors just tell me to plough on with a home detox

i have had an abusive childhood and im wondering if maybe my self esteem is too low for me to continue on with this detox.

i dont mind insomnia i dont mind feeling ill or under the weather but what i cant have- is a disturbed mind to this extent.

is there ANY light at the end of the tunnel?

Due to your existing issues, you should wean down with the assistance of a psychiatrist that can help you with your feelings . It is very important for your safety that you feel mentally stable through the withdrawal process. Usually there are other mood stabilizers they could prescribe you and make the process smooth and safe. Please try to make an appointment before proceeding. There is a light in the end of the tunnel.

I was an addict for 25 years, and opted to get help from a psychologist for the underlying issues that were the cause of my pain (before trying to self medicate). You can mask that pain, with drugs, or you can deal with it head on. IMO, get a psychologist, and if you deal with a psychiatrist, do get anti-depressants and not xanax or something else that will only add to the list of things that you'll need to detox from. I find it so frustrating to hear that methadone is given to people in an open ended script. As far as I know, methadone is supposed to be weaning you off of drugs, no? Why would anyone be on methadone for 20 years? The goal should be clean and sober from all mood altering drugs, so that your body mind and spirit is able to heal. So, you're at that point now. Please see a therapist about what happened to you to start this whole trip you've been on, and find closure. God Speed.

Yes! Being a nurse I would expect ur doctor to refer u to a psycharist...lo g term drug addiction and mental illness go hand in hand any good doctor knows that....find a good psycharist that specializes in addiction and he or she will get u on proper antidepressant! U can do this! Ur almost there! My parents were addicted to heroin for 20 yrs.then methadone .and can tell u antidepressants can help epically if u have a history of abuse...b/c when u come off drugs all those feelings and memories surface...any addict will tell u that, feeling of remorse and that u have failed in life....but really things are on path to spiritual and mental freedom and a better life ahead of u...be proud of urself for getting  this far...don't give up u can do it!
