stop percocet cold turkey

i am perscribed percocet. I have taken 2 5/375 mg every 6 hrs but ususlly no more than 6 in a day. I some times only take 4 and once in a while as little as 1 a day. I am 35 weeks pregnant and don't want any issues when i deliver. so my question Is it true stopping completely as in no "tapering off" will send my baby in to shock or me in to pre term labor or be as bad as some NoN doctor people are saying on here? I am under the impression the same MD's answer all questions in all fourms but please tell me if I should post under pregnancy instead. thank you

yes ma'am the OB is the perscriber. hypothetically speaking she came early and i only have stopped completely taking them for as little as 1 week will she still have a high chance of being dependent? I have been rx for pain and taking them for about 4 months consistantly. I am only looking for a second opinion in a sense. i cannot afford to physically see another Dr but dont want the opinion of the people who are not somewhat trained in this field.(the bloggers on this site) I would also like to put any worries to rest and say i will only use your advice as a food for thought so to speak. i will always talk to my OB before i take any action. thank you for responding.

Dear Kme,
Was your OB/GYN aware that you were taking Percocet throughout the pregnancy?  Are you taking them for pain? You did not make that clear.  I would certainly advise you to wean off of the Percocet.  4-3-2-2-1-1. Take a week to do it and then stop.  If you are taking Percocet for pain, take Tylenol instead, but no more than directed.  Make sure that your OB/GYN is aware that you have been taking Percocet during pregnancy; baby may need extra attention after birth. But if you wean yourself early enough before delivery everything should be fine, just don't do it abruptly.  If your pain is not controlled with Tylenol, please talk to your physician and your OB to see what your options are.  Don't make decisions without their knowledge and input, please.  Take care of yourself.  Your concern shows me that you are going to be a terrific mom. Good luck!
