Normal Cortisol Level?

Hello There

I often feel confused and dizzy like symptons, sometimes shaky and when walking round town etc i can feel very drained and weak.

Ive been seeing the doctor to find out whats wrong and recently had 4 blood tests , one being for Adrenal Insufficiency:

The readings are:

Cortisol 296
Glucose are: 4.3 , 4.5 , 4.6

Are these normal? Any ideas?

Grateful for any help :)

Hi Ben, you need to get a synacthen test really which will tell you how well your adrenals respond to stimulation. A random cortisol will not really tell you much, it is how well your adrenals respond that really matters. Just for the record my cortisol was higher than yours but barely changed when injected with synthetic ACTH. I am now receiving treatment and most of my symptoms have gone. Have you had your electrolytes checked? I used to be very dizzy and that was due to low sodium levels (because of primary adrenal insufficiency).  Don't let the doctors fob you off!

Also, what time of day was it taken and what type of test - urine or blood?

I figured that by the UK in your name that you were in England but that sadly does not tell me the ranges to your cortisol - is is high, very high? Low? Is the cut off 30 or 500? The range should be next to the lab result.

Can you add ranges? Every lab in every country differs - so it is hard to tell where you are.

Not sure how to edit this topic, but just to add i currently weight 9stone.    I am underweight for my heigh of around 5ft 11,  the doctor says my perfect weight would be 10.5-11stone.      I eat and snack all the time, my friends say i never stop eating!   yet i dont seem to put on any weight what so ever,  if anything i have dropped down to 8.5 stone when unwell.
