Hi Caroline.

How fast can you get your doctor -if you can convince him to prescribe Cytomel (T3) as an rT3 challenge?

Some questions:

What is the proposed treatment for Borreliosis (Lyme) and how is so far?

Weight, height, diet, other diagnosis, current symptoms, lifestyle etc.

This following is a reply I posted at the Lyme Community earlier today
(copied  and pasted)

" I suspect that most chronic Lyme's sufferers must have adrenal fatigue (AFS)

because of the ongoing internal and external stress in their lives

- here we go again with another controversial medical condition

that is not fully recognized by the medical establishment until it becomes a

complete adrenal crisis!-

And no matter what, recovery from any serious condition, when adrenal

fatigue is not resolved, is a MONUMENTAL task, if not impossible!!!

The way the cells heal is through ELECTRICITY, which is energy, which is

severely compromised in Adrenal Fatigue, so it cannot reach the required

millivolts level for healing purposes!

So, addressing underlying imbalances-which in this case again needs a

knowledgeable Functional Medicine Doctor or ND- may help experience

a breakthrough with you Lyme's treatment.

Let me know if you need any more info and I can also send you an AFS

questionnaire/assessment, if interested." And this is also for you Caroline.

Blessings,

Niko

Hi Niko,

I stopped my thyroid medication and I feel not good, I have short err of breath and heart palpitation.  Not a good feeling, I will give it a few days, but I definitely will not last a whole month.  I thought I answered all your questions, if you need to know more, please just let me know.

Hi Caroline.

I just lost my reply to you, but I'll do it over.

Ideally you would replace armour with T3 only (cytomel?) as an rT3 challenge, since you have no rT3 testing done at present.
By removing T4 (armour is T3 & T4),you are removing the rT3 source.

One more thing that I need to clarify, is that my comments are FYI only and are not intended as a medical consultation, even if I may have the best intentions to offer you accurate, safe and useful information.
It is your responsibility for any decisions you make for your own health matters.

If you are interested in what I mentioned in my previous replies, please
consider answering some of my questions, if and when you are up to it!

Sometimes, certain details get overlooked, and those can make a big difference in one's health.

Take care.

Hi,

Thank you so much.

It is me who coordinate all the. Ms, lyme..
Since in Canada they are pretty. Clueless about lyme.
I did the Igenex test, I was picking berries a lot when young so she thinks that I must have lyme.
This health situation is a little bit of headache. I went for allergy testing.
I am on such a small dose that my symptoms comes back if I stop.  I feel better. On my mini dose.  My feet get red when I take thyroid medication, but if I stopped I get depress and constipated.  That why I find it hard to stop this.

You definitely need the rT3 as well, as the fT3/rT3 ratio is probably the most reliable marker for low cellular thyroid function.
Look for a ratio of over 20 for healthy thyroid function. (divide Free T3 by reverse T3, but make sure you are in the same unit measurement for both.)

Your adrenals are probably dysregulated, due to the chronic internal bodily stress, which is possibly the reason for low fT3/rT3 ratio as one of the  causes is high cortisol.
Paradoxically low cortisol (which is the next phase after unresolved chronic high cortisol-could be years, before the body cannot sustain the elevated
cortisol production, resulting in diminished cortisol production!) is another cause for a low fT3/rT3 ratio.

rT3 originates from T4, so it might make sense to look into replacing armour
if you're on that,(which is natural T3 AND T4!) with just T3 like cytomel, but please discuss this with your doctor.
You can try this for a while and see how you respond to it, but it might take time to experience improvement as the body slowly removes the excess rT3.

Your doctor has not considered the rT3, as you have not been tested for that and should at least have considered a short trial for you without thyroid medication and monitor your symptoms very closely.

The above suggestion I offered you is to my opinion the best option, but please consult  your treating doctor.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the proposed treatment for Borreliosis
and have you been also tested for co-infections through IGeneX?

You are in bit of a challenging predicament. Thyroid Adrenals, MS, Lymes.

Who co-ordinates everything for you?

What type of MS is it and how many symptoms do you or your LLMD find that match exactly Lyme's?

Have you ruled out ALL major & essential deficiencies?

Gotta run. More later.

Did you test your thyroid ON meds - if so, then the meds made you normal and the doc should be happy you are on/near the correct dosage. To take you off would mean you would feel worse. If you have a pit issue or a suspected pit issue, TSH is suspect anyway.

My one doc has my take my tests at 8am fasting, before meds, and it helps to take all my testing in a consistent way. I have another doc (local) who just tests me any time of day, it may be 1 hour or whatever after I took my meds and her results make me look like I bounce all over.

Thank you so much for all these info.  Yes she is a llmd in New York and she tested through Igenex.  That is the thing my dr here in Canada. He wants me to stop my thyroid medication....previous. Test free t3 and free t4 were in the range.....I will ask for reverse t3 next time.  I have to tell you that morning that I do not take it, I have heart palpitation all day, so I think I need it.  My dr in New York tell me that lyme sufferer have low thyroid, mine is 4.76.  I have borrelia.  I hope I answer all your question.

Hi godiva.

Well, I'm sorry to hear about your health issues.

This is going to take time to sort out my dear.

There are more questions than answers, so please be patient with me.

Why are you seeing a Lyme specialist( is she a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor? -LLMD*-) and and if Lyme's disease or any of its co-infections
is suspected, have you gotten a complete Borellia and co-infections Panel
through IGeneX  Labs in Palo Alto, CA? They are the Golden standard
for Lyme Disease testing, and most other labs return consistently false
negatives!!!
*As of last year in Canada there are supposedly NO LLMDs!
The last one I knew of was a young doctor in North York, Toronto, going by the name Dr.B,( treating  chronic Lyme's patients under the medical board's radar to avoid reprimands) who studied at McGill.
Unfortunately they caught up with him and he will no longer treat Lyme's patients. It's simply insane!
Anyway, this is an entirely different issue, but please feel free to contact me about Lyme's as I may have some very helpful information.

Some observations regarding MS and Lymes.
--- Biopsies of the brain have discovered living Borrelia bacteria in people diagnosed with MS!
----MS and Lyme are 2 different diseases, but share many symptoms!
----Both Lyme disease and MS have an autoimmune aspect.

You TSH (high normal) should NOT be used to determine tissue thyroid function.
Ask and insist for free T3, Free T4 and Reverse T3.

I'll continue another time.

If you have any questions let me know.

À bientôt.

Niko

Yes, without a range it is hard to really get a feel for the test.

One test IMHO is not enough to determine a cortisol issue. But it is suspicious for Cushing's

A lot of us with Cushing's have low iron, cannot sleep (as cortisol reversal or just too high interferes with sleep or apnea caused by weight gain), and the redness - no idea but we get in face or all over.

Pain is also an issue as cortisol goes up and down.

HI godiva121.

Lachine, PQ  Hmm. Nice area!
My wife is from La belle province (not the restaurant, lol!) too and is visiting friends and relatives around Terrebonne for a few days.
I couldn't go this time with her.

Is your cortisol in nanomols per liter (nmol/l)-I think it is but just want to be sure- and what are the labs ranges? What test was it?
Are you on any corticosteroid medications presently?

Some causes of high cortisol could be Cushing's, obesity, depression, corticosteroids, birth control pills and other.

Could you give more details about your medical history, like thyroid function, tests with results AND lab ranges, and meds, weight, height, diet, other diagnosis, current symptoms, lifestyle and family factors, and anything else you think may help?

À bientôt.
