Ok well the fact he is responding is good, in situations like this the following 48 hours after admission to hospital are crucial, if there is no improvement then it can be a cause for concern, the fact that he is improving is very positive. Right now is not the time to worry if this is drink related or not.
You mentioned  that he was sedated, the reason for this is to give the body witch is weakened by his illness a chance to recover, he would be prone to infections as well so they may restrict visiting so dont be alarmed if they do.

Hi trinikimmi,

Ok first your bf is in good hands, it can be frightening to see people on all these machines but they are helping him by easing his breathing and making him comfortable so as to aid his recovery from whatever illness he has.
I  think the only one who can truly answer your question is the staff working in the ICU department.
Try and have a chat with a nurse but remember they are issues here concerning patent continuality so they may not be able to give you any information..

This may or may not be due to alcohol., alcohol can be a contributing factor in aggravating some illness, has your BF any medical issues or is he taking any medication. Dose he use recreational drugs.
What age is your bf?
