p.s. I do drink a lot of water and depending on how humid it is out. I do still retain water. 2/14/95. If I go for a walk on a humid day, I can't bend my fingers.
I've been having a blast trying all kinds of different beverages. I always have homemade ice tea in my fridge, one green, one black. The green tea I am making now is a Tazo tea with cucumber and peach, Oh baby! I sweeten with honey that I put part water with and nuke then shake. When chilled it stays liquid and mixes with cold drinks great.
In my fresh ground whole bean coffee I use agave sweetner sometimes, its from cactus. It is better for your sugar levels. Sometimes I use turbinado sugar. I don't think I have used processed sugar for 20 years.
I just love trying different flavor teas for my black ice tea. I sometimes mix different tea bags like vanilla and raspberry to make my own flavor ice tea.
I'm a different kind of mixologist !!
Caffiene from tea, makes my day as long as I stop at a certain time, it doesn't keep me up at night. Coffee, keeps me up! Even decaf.
I love all kinds of coffee, espresso, cappachino, latte, regular, just not black.
How about smoothies! I buy and freeze fruit all year around. Mangoes, pinapple, papaya, banana, peach, strawberries, concord grapes (pitted), melons, etc. I use all kinds of liquid bases plus tofu or yogurt and make awesome smoothies. Yay! Leftovers become ice pops.
This is a fun thread
LOL!!!"It may hurt the Local ecomomy." I had always loved water up until a certain point in my life when I had to force it..My tast buds had changed...I was hella depressed, too. I had to burn myself out on the basketball court in order to develop a taste for it, and that sometimes didn't work...Gatorade. There is a high percentage of water in some drinks now in day, so give some of those a try, for now, but your taste for water will come back.
ahhh yes......nothing like a cup of coffee ground from whole bean XXXXXXXLL strong with honey and half and half to open the eyes in the morning!
yes, it's true. i am powerless over coffee and mountain dew. but i remember what i did last night------gm
me neither but boy we sure can crank the levels up there!u have some good and refreshing suggestions...some of which i have used!
I don't see the problem with caffeine and sugar. I think my body much prefers this to drinking. They also came out with a study that shows many people crave caffeine after quittting drinking and it can be therapeutic --helps the liver detox?. For sweet drinks, I mix a few ounces of Cranberry juice with la croix. it's low calorie and yummy. I also drink lots of green tea and black tea with milk and sugar. Quitting drinking causes lots of fatigue at first so caffeine can be a life saver. Also try cinammon to help with sugar cravings. Cinammon is a natural way to help regulate insulin levels. It really works for me and my sister swears by it also.
For humor, I imagine my recovering alcoholic character indulging in hot and spicy peppers. The hotter the better. I guess he likes a bit of pain, lol. (You can see him in my photos, w a little hint of smoke coming out of his mouth from eating too many)
BTW I had fun reading this. I' don't drink, but I do hit up on chocolate like an addiction... I like dark chocolate. Ice cream is another I like. Ice cream with chocolate.
LMEdy's fruit bar butt off!Hey they come in sugar free...made with the Splenda, can u do that?ooh malt balls,Edy's has a choc malt ball ice cream.....ah visual reality intoxication by sugar and caffeine sources!we boys and girls gotta have sumpthing!been a good weekend..hope u find those sugar free Edy's!
Moi ? Le chocolat ? Ice Cream ? Bonbons ? Ahhh Le confort aliments!
Yes , I have never met a recovering alcoholic that dosen't enjoy the " Comfort Food's ".
Unfortunately , this time around I have to watch my "sugar" Intake due to " Insulin Dependent Diabetes". It's one of the reason's I have been obsessing with the diet pop that contains Phenylalanine as a sugar substitute that is almost sweeter than sugar , if that were possible. In past sobriety's I would consume " Double Chocolate Malt ball's " by the truck load , lol!. Rationalize , you say ? Again , What's That ? LOL!! Yet another overlooked character flaw !! lol .. How many more of these will you help me discover ? lol ...I have to rationalize , how else shall I receive my due share of bonbon's ? lol !
But... Shhhhhh ..We won't mention this slight flaw to my Doctor ! That's what the Insulin is for , is it not ? ( more rationalization ). To manage my sugar intake ?
After all , how shall I survive without it ? lol ! Heh , I know , MODERATION !
Now that Ive settled that issue , EDY'S FRUIT BAR'S you say ? Ummmmm...Strawberry's Ummmmm ... Coconut Creme ! Well , I have to run to the store now . lol ! Have a Super Great Labor Day Weekend ibizan & Thank's for hanging out with me. ... Burrpatch
hahahah!moderation came to me S-L-O-W-L-Y...after about 4 years sober......one day i drank about 25 cups of coffee.......SCHWING!some earth ppl complain about my coffee....newly sober/clean ppl who come to our agency approach me and say...Could u make me some of YOUR coffee?the other gals make it like weak tea!Speaking of moderation....NOT.......i have eaten every flavor of Edy's fruit bars made...fresh fruit frozen in a popsicle!fav flavor tangerine!in the freezer now r 2 boxes of tangerine,1 of coconut creme and 1 of strawberry.....i rationalize with no fat.....but they got the SUGAR!but oh sooo good!do u do chocolate?ice cream?
Moderation?...Whats that? lmfao! I guess that it's been so long since Ive been clean that I forgot about that little character flaw! --- Tick - tick - tick , tock's my whirling mind ; as I walk down the aisle yet another time. Seeking cold , shiny and multi-colored drinks ; as long as I stay to the left I'll be alright methink's. What flavor today , brown , yellow or green ; money's no object , just feed me caffeine. lol!
Thank you so much , for your reply ibizan. As usual , I have benefited from your advice and will start to make a nice cold , ice filled jug of water my new best friend. Then I'm gonna put the word MODERATION in big letters all through my cabin and see if I can stop spending all my money every time I walk into the town store. It may hurt the local economy ( my town has only one store and a bar ) but I'm sure they will understand! lol. - and if anyone out there ever needs a lift to their day , jus' look for the lil' flower and try the ibizan way! Thanks again , Burrpatch.
this is a common thing for us recovering folk......and probly the soft drinks have that caffeine in them!a replacement jolt that is non-chemical!When i first got sober i was POUNDING the caffeine either in coffee, soft drinks or chocolate!i had to learn moderation....a foreign concept to us...and now always keep a huge cup of water around to drink off of....still like my STRONG coffee and an occasional soft drink but have learned to moderate!
