Since you don't believe in AA for yourself, why not just work on the "overwhelming depression" that you are experiencing. I would try everything but the drugs offered first of course, because of your problems with addictions. Also, it would be a shame to quit drinking and have to take drugs to deal with it. It sort of defeats the purpose of getting sober. There are so many things you can do to address the depression in your life. I don't think it matter where the depression comes from, whether it be the season or not, it only matters that you make changes that can address it.
The top treatments are still exercise, sleep, and talking to others –
1. Music therapy
2. Art therapy
3. Mindful meditation
4. Massage therapy
5. Group sports
6. Breathwork
7. Light therapy
8. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
9. Neurofeedback
10. Tai Chi
11. Personal growth workshops
12. Support groups
13. Shiatsu
Hiya Catherine
My suggestion would be why not start your own group ? AA is not for everybody and I know people who have started their own group in their own community.
Lots of people would benefit from listening to your experience.
Hope this helps, Vince (UK, Manchester)
