Pain in Both Sides after Heavy Alcohol Consumption

Hello,

So just a bit of background, im 20yrs old, 6'4 and about 205 pounds in relatively athletic shape. I am in college and frequently consume excessive amounts of alcohol.

In the past month or so ive started to notice some pain in my sides the morning after drinking a lot. This isn't something I have ever experienced before so the first couple times it happened to me I just assumed I did something stupid last night and thats why my sides were sore or hurting. It has probably only noticeably happened 4 or 5 times and it only happens if I get very intoxicated. It came to my concern after this past weekend when I woke up and both of my sides felt extremely tight like I had been lifting a lot of weight the day before or something.

The pain is in both of my sides, pretty much a straight line down from my armpits and hurts from my waist until about my lower chest area. Through google I thought maybe I had acute pancreatitis but my symptoms don't seem so sever, I have not had to go to the hospital and my pain is on my literal sides, whereas the pain for pancreatitis is more on the frontal side and typically only on the left (from what ive read). The pain is pretty dull, it just feels like I pulled a muscle in my sides or did a lot of heavy lifting the day before. It hurts to cough, and hinders my mobility a bit. The pain lasts for a day only and then goes away the next morning.

Any ideas as to what this could be? I have been drinking for years and it has only now started to show.

I actually only have one more thing to suggest say :
Alcoholics don't "go and get hammered to escape reality or escape some **** "  rather, alcoholics get "hammered" because they are ADDICTED to alcohol.
You have a very mistaken idea of what alcoholism is and what causes it.
I hope You find the "answer" You are looking for since You are unwilling to consider factual info on the dangers of alcohol and alcoholism
GoodLuck and

I am looking for medical reasonings not counseling, thank you. Something like oh this is inflammation of your pancreas due to the alcohol blah blah. I get that it is the alcohol causing it but id like to know what exactly the alcohol is doing to make my sides hurt.

I am a college student. I'm not suffering from alcoholism though you may think thats the case. I don't go and get hammered to escape reality or escape some ****. I drink because that is how he choose to have fun.

I appreciate the concern, I am just not interested in life coaching right now. I would have posted this is an alternative forum but they were all closed.

Both NightHawk61 and I DID answer the cause of Your "medical issue"

We both know of what we speak:

NightHawk is a recovered alcoholic and I am the Daughter of an alcoholic Mother.

My Mother was an alcoholic by the time She was 20 (like You) years old.  No one knew about or understood alcoholism in those days.  Everyone was aware that She drank too often (like You "frequent"), too much (like You, "excessive amounts") but no one had a clue at that time the dangers of alcohol and the damage it would ultimately come to wreak on Her and all of us/those who loved Her.  It was NOT pretty - not for Her, not for us.

Alcohol (certainly in  "frequent" , "excessive"  amounts) does cause "medical issues" - along with mental, emotional, physical, relationship, etc., etc., etc.

Thing is, You don't want to 'hear' this message so You consider it a "lecture".   Denial is a powerful thing, my Friend.  It would behoove You not to consider this a "lecture"

At this point I will only say "beware and be aware".  If You choose to continue to "frequently" consume "excessive" amounts of alcohol Your "medical issues" WILL increase.  This I know is true.

GoodLuck

I am more curious as to the medical cause of this issue than interested in lectures about my habits.

I too hope that you can learn to live without the excessive alcohol. If you find you cannot drink, without it becoming excessive, then you shouldn't drink. You sound like you're in good shape otherwise, and enjoy being so. Don't ruin your body by drowning it in alcohol. You don't need to do that to be liked, Your friends will accept you if you regard your body as a temple. And if they don't , they were never truly your friends anyways and so no big loss.

Be good to yourself. You don't need an alcoholic liver and problems as you age. There's so much more to life than that.

I would not presume to 'diagnose' You here BUT of course I note You have these painful episodes after a night of heavy drinking - SO my advice in a 'nutshell' is listen to Your body and don't drink - Our body know what's good and not good for it and will react - but we don't listen

Doesn't matter how young You are (20), how tall You are (6'4") and how fit and atheletic You deem YourSelf to be - alcohol is doing damage to Your Body, (and Your brain) and You are being given a 'warning'.  Also, the Body is miraculous in the sense that it will try to heal itself if we don't continue the abuse.

You are ONLY 20 and You've been drinking for YEARS ?? !! !!  You drank excessive amounts with 'apparently' 'no problem' BUT alcohol and the damage it does is cumulative.  It's been doing things to Your body all along - You just haven't been 'aware'.  Your body is 'warning' You that You are hurting it.

You are young now but You will not remain strong and healthy if You continue to drink.  This I know is true.  Please don't doubt what I'm saying. There is a ton of information on the dangers of alcohol on the body, the brain, the entire central nervous system, the liver, etc., etc.  Alcohol maims and cripples many people before they realize the dangers.  You are young enough to stop before that happens to You (and to those who love You)

(I'll step down off my 'soap box' now - but I truely, truely hope You get my message)
GoodLuck
