thank you for your message i will get the book. i am in the early stages its only 4 days since i had a drink and i'm finding it really hard. having support from people on this site is fantastic and knowing that people have moved forward and kicked it is very encouraging. i think its brilliant that you have turned your life around and i really want and need to do the same before life gets even worse.

Hi, you have good advice from everyone here. Going to AA meetings is great, the twelve steps of AA make everyone a much better person when followed. I went to a outpatient program for 9 mths.,a 12 step program because I needed a lot of help to quit as I drank everyday. It changed my thinking which was bad and negative. I quit before my liver was damaged. I just lost a friend to alcoholism that I was trying to help. Please get help and don't drink before something happens to you. Please go to AA meetings and let your doctor know how much you have been drinking, mine totally encouraged me to sobriety. Doc may have other sources of help also. Life sober is so good and I am so happy I don't drink. Best Wishes to you!

Read Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Control (Your Drinking)or(Alcohol). I went through expensive and poverty level rehabs, jail, AA. I'm sure all of that information I learned help me now, but Allen Carr's book was when I turned the corner and have been sober 2 years. I'm pretty sure he is from England.
I had no Withdrawals and I had drank alot! Just alot of uncomfortable feelings. I replaced positive addiction over my negative. At 54, I graduated college this last spring with honors. I studied, exercised, volunteered, cooked, renewed my relationships... I am now a respected/loved mother, friend, sister daughter,  and employee.
I don't do AA. I know this will irritate many on this site, but I never found a group I was comfortable with. I appreciate AA, but I know it is not the only way. I am sooo comfortable with my sobriety! I do know from previous AA meetings that I can NEVER have another drink. I will never risk the joy I have now!

Yes, you can just walk in and attend. It's free. Here in the states we call the AA hotline and they will tell us the nearest meeting to our location. I'm sure you can do the same in the UK. I can go on-line and find a meeting anywhere I Happened to be. I've been to meetings from Hawaii to North Carolina. Meetings usually last an hour. They start at different times of the day and night at one's convenience.

When u've been drinking heavy, its good to get honest with your doctor if ur serious @ quitting...and any resulting withdrawal symptoms can be managed by him/her.Also good to get a fasting CBC and see what shape the liver and pancreas are in for alcohol does some damage to these 2 organs!

Well sir, I have good news for you on the God issue; all the God step suggests is that you have a power greater than you.  It can be the meetings if you wish. Note I said suggest. The steps are all suggestions. I have a good friend who isn't into the God part of AA but he's been sober for 21 years. He's well respected by everyone.

One of the most important aspects of the AA fellowship is the fact that we get to know ourselves. All the good parts we can keep, and the parts we don't like about ourselves we can do away with. We learn to respect ourselves, and we can hold our heads up proud. We quickly become part of the solution, not the disease.

AA has worked for me. What I put into it as far as working on myself, is what I get out of it.  What ever you try as your recovery solution, work it good!! Wish you best of luck!

Good info from Ibizan. That's what I did. I went to AA. I was amazed at the number of people there who were just like me. The moment I walked into that room I no longer felt alone with my disease. I sat at a table with about 12 others. There were many other tables also, filled with drunks just like me. At my table everyone shared their history of how they ended up in AA. I was amazed because they all shared my story. I'm just like them. I learned that I have a stubborn disease that requires being treated on a regular basis. Those very people started helping me get my life back by teaching me how I can work with my disease, learning to live sober and enjoy life at the same time.

You're not alone anymore Sal. There is help. You gotta want to do it for you and you alone. The other things will get better, but if you do it for you alone that won't matter because you will have already come to the realization that you're worth it. You'll begin to comprehend the word serenity and you'll know peace.
