Allergy ?

Lately I've been experiencing something that feels/looks like an allergic reaction. Since about last year, after almost everything I eat, I feel nauseated. Then recently i had a drink of alcohol, and immediately my mouth (lips and tongue) were swollen, along with difficulty breathing. Since then I stopped drinking alcohol, and it didn't happen for awhile until I went to the dentist for a filling. Immediately after she injected me, my lips and tongue started swelling up, and I again had trouble breathing. I also couldn't swallow.
The foods that mostly makes me feel nauseated are, shrimps, lobster, some fuits, every kind of juice, bread, and a lot more.
Also, I had severe eczema when I was young, then it dissapeared for awhile, but came back a few months ago when my mother changed the laundry detergent.  I also noticed that shampoos, soaps, etc., gives me rashes all over my body (where it touched).

Could this be an allergy to sulfates/sulfites (not sure which one)?

It certainly sounds like a sulfate allergy. I used to have one..I can finally say used to. Try going a day without eating or using anything with sulfates and see how you feel. I was always extra tired when I would come in contact with sulfates as well as itchy, gassy, stomach pains, dizziness, nauseous, ect. I was a mess. Benedril or any anti-histamine would help me.
Try a shampoo line that L'Oreal has out that is sulfate free. There's also a generic brand at most Rite Aids. Bar soap was the only thing I could use, and only 100% natural breads and pastas were all I could eat..
I hope it's not for your sake because it's a true life-style change. Need any advice, I'm full of it. Like I said, I've been there.
Best Wishes.

Yes, you bring up a good point. There is a small amount of sulfite in epinephrine, which is why you probably had the reaction you had at the dentists'.

As you probably already know, sulfites are usually used as a perservative. Wine especially contains sulfites. It's also used to make red meats look redder and more appetizing. The list goes on and on.

I sure hope you can get to the bottom of your problem!

Thank you
I am going to my GP this week, so i will ask her about it.

I am trying to stay clear of everything that I know that will cause a reaction but it is quite hard since I'm not sure what causes it.

As for the epi-pen, doesn't it contain sulfites/sulfates (not sure which one)?

Wow!

Yes, it most definitely sounds like allergies, and serious ones at that!

You need to see an allergist ASAP and you should also be caring an epi-pen with you for future severe reactions.

Meanwhile, obviously stay clear of everything you know of that will cause these reactions.

Good luck!
