Am I allergic to alcohol?

After I drink alcohol, I get red, itchy, and hives over my body the next day.Right after drinking, I am fine, and don't see/feel any reactions.

However, after sobering up, or waking up the next day my body becomes bright red and itches intensely. However, this reaction does not start until I stand up. If I were to drink, lay down, sleep, and then wake up. I would have no reaction until I physically stood up out of bed?

Is this an allergy to alcohol, a byproduct of alcohol, or something else?

Also, is there a way to prevent it from happening?

Thank You.

i have had reactions to alcohol - due to the fining ingredients -  i had a couple of sips of wine - and got itchy (blamed friends cat for having flees) a couple of sips later i started feeling really ill and thought i was coming down with somthing and went home and to bed! a few days later i went back to my friends and asked if she still had the wine bottle as i thought i had an allergic reation - only to find it was fined with geletin - i have a land meat allergy!! maybe your allergy is not to alcohol but somthing that has been added to the alchohol.

Hi .. I don't know the answer but it may be something in the liquor itself .. corn, hops, flavorings?  Not sure on the standing up either.  I'd ask your physcian .. allergies are not something to take lightly ... your BP may have something to do with it.
