different allergies

hi all, i have had odd allergies and wanted to see fir any advice, the drs have placed me as
an asthmatic since i was 15, i must have used the inhaler (ventolin) only a few occasions in my life.

i find that some oily foods give me breathing problems and some dont, dust gives me itchyness and breathing problems, car fumes im ok with, but i was on holiday abroad and maybe because of the polution of the car fumes in cities i found it terrible to breath there, including the summer heat that does this too.

i recently have also discovered that i have somthing with sugar too, most of my life i would get itchyness, burning sensations when i start exercising or if i was under stress, i stopped sugar and now when i exercise i dont get the itchy/burning/rash skin irritations. the last thing is, i get lot of flem too, especially in the mornings, somtimes in the morning i get breathing problems because of it in my throat and once i clear it im ok, i've had it since i as a kid.

how can i reduce the flem?what could this really be?
i know i havent got asthma as i never really use the inhaler and im ok, just have to avoid things like the fumes and certain foods, is there a test i can do to give me more info on what this is and any allrgy tests i can request from the dr?

thank you

i was with a nurse yesterday, for a routine health check, i asked her about the tests for allergies, she said it can be done but i shouldn't bother since i know what to avoid ;(
and she didn't really look at it as a big thing. Wil have a word with the Dr next time.

so one canbe allergic to sugar? i've always thought being allergic tosomthing would mean even a drop of it ( whatever your elergic too) would cause great harm? just like peanut allergies. So if im allergic to sugar it could be a mild form? i also fid my fav
ce and body doesn't bloat up anymore since i stopped sugar, ive also been diagnosed as non alcoholic fatty liver, could this be linked with the sugar?

thanks again

You can ask your doctor to do certain food allergy tests on you.  Most allergists have a common list of foods that they test for but if you are concerned about something that is not on the list, you can tell the allergist.  He/she may have you bring that food in and they will do a scratch test using that specific food.  You can even bring sugar in and he/she can do a scratch test using that to see if you are allergic.  Also dont forget that there are other things out there now that can replace sugar.

hi thankyou for the reply

yeah im not sure exactly what i am allergic to, but i know i have allergies to many things even including my mothers perfume, with others im fine but when my mum puts the one perfume on i begin to get breathing problems, so yeah, i avoid situations and places where i believe i may be exposed to anything im allergic to.

the other thing is im finding that milk gives me diahrea, could allt his be linked with sugar too? i have been tested for coeliac and was negative

thanks again

Hi there, I really think you should put your health in to consideration. Some one who is prone to allergies, or vulnerable to reacting to several substances that would not necessarily cause a reaction in others would have a greater risk of being asthmatic. There are also certain situations whereby you naturally react to food substances due to the presence of some other materials.
It's really good that you were able to sort out foods that you were allergic to, and I really think you should stay away from them. Try to find alternatives to sugar,or reduce your sugar intake.
Concerning flem formed, I really think you should see a pulmonologist, sothat necessary med. can be administered.
Finally, the fact that you haven't made use of an inhaler in awhile is probably because you have 'outgrown' the tendency to be asthmatic, or you haven't been in contact with allergens.
