Allergic to titanium?

Allergic to titanium? I have had three knee replacements, one a cement/antibiotic one. I am in constant pain and my leg has red spots on the aria of the knee replacement and is always wormer then the other leg. Now I have developed a severe allergy in my sinus, with the tubes plug and water on one ear. No one can tell me what I am allergic to. I read many people having the idea of allergies to titanium and I have read that the medical community say it not possible. The last two night I have had a temperature of 101, that comes and goes.
my meds are:
Mometasone Furoate 50 mcg 120d nasal
Loratadine 10mg
Rifampin 300 mg cap
my Gatofloxacin was discontinued by the VA
replaced with ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice a day.
Are you sure that there are no allergies to knee replacements  jeff graham

Hello Suzie,

it´s me again, Günter from Germany.
Thank you for your advice, but I had already contact to Dr. Valentine -Thon about 9 years ago.
Your are right, she is a very nice person.
The Melisa Test showed only a mild allergy to nickel.
I did this test again and again, but the result was always the same.
So I went to the University of Munich to Prof. Thomas.
He is a specialist on implants.
He told me, that he had 170 cases of nickel allergy caused by implants.
But all the patients had "only" rashes and an itching skin.
Some of them put the implants out and the rashes went away.

You had nearly the same symptoms that I still have.
And so my questin is: What did they put in after they had removed the metal out of your neck?
This information could be very helpful for me.

I´m looking forward for your answer. Many thanks and all the best for you, Günter

It could be that the titanium clips they used had nickel as the alloy in them.  It is my understanding there is no 100% pure titanium implants because it is too soft.  There is a lab in NJ that helped me navigate through the medical madness to have a titanium plate removed.  If you go to the Melisa dot org site, click on "contact us" and then "labs".  It is the last lab listed.  There are others too that can help, but the doctor that runs that lab was extremely helpful to me.  She sent out the lab testing to my PC doc and I took the test and proved that I was allergic to nickel.  I wish you the best.

I had gallbladder surgery about six weeks ago. I received information prior to surgery that titanium clips would be used. I contacted my surgeon's office prior to surgery and informed them that I was concerned since I know have a nickel allergy. I was informed that patients with a nickel allergy are fine with titanium because they are 2 separate metals but make sure I inform the anesthesiologist as well before the surgery.  I informed my surgeon at post op visit that I have a rash and itching at incision site. He told me that he did not see a rash and that he has not seen any reports of allergies to titanium and if it continues, I should see a dermatologist. Well the rash persist and has gotten worse. I went to my PCM and then set pictures to my surgeon. He saw me immediately but said it just seems to be on the surface of my skin. He ordered a CT scan and referred me to a dermatologist. My surgeon made sure he annotated in his notes that I did not inform him prior to surgery that I was allergic to titanium. Well, that would be correct-I have never had any titanium implants or used anything with titanium! I will see the dermatologist this week. I am miserable...constant itching, shooting tinges of pain, I'm so fatigued...any advise...

http://www.steelstandingbook.com/tag/steel-standing/ This woman went through hell, but thanks to her daughter she found the problem. I had my plate in my neck removed out patient surgery. Don't let them lie to you It came out easier that going in. No more ear infections. I still have clips in my belly do I need those out as well. Once the bones are fused they serve no purpose unless it's a hip implant. Blessings all we need to kick *** and get this out to the public.

http://www.steelstandingbook.com/tag/steel-standing/ “Do you know the types of metals in your implants?”

It’s a question asked among the attendees at “Steel Standing” presentations. Most shrug their shoulders, unaware of the potential dangers lurking beneath their skin and muscle tissue if they’ve had metal implants such as joint replacements, pacemaker (outside casing), or have had dental implants with “alloy” posts. There is a huge difference between “alloy” metals and “pure” metals. "go check this out"

I am so sorry to hear that you are still suffering so much.  I was told the very same thing, "No one is allergic to titanium."  The problem is that these titanium plates are NOT 100% titanium, there are other metals (alloys) in them, including nickel.  Nickel was exactly I was allergic to, not titanium.  I had my revision surgery last July and I have had my ups and downs recovering, but there is no doubt, I am much, much better now, I even practice yoga 3 times a week.  I don't know your situation, but the doctor at the Melisa lab I went through worked in Germany for a long time and probably is fluent in German.  She is extremely nice and is willing to help.  I would recommend writing to her, it may be easier to email her in your native tongue.  She is located in the lab in New Jersey, USA, her name is Dr. Valentine-Thon.  She just may be able to help you navigate through this.

I wish you the very best and I will pray that God will be merciful to you as He was to me and give you some answers and peace.
