Allergies to tree nuts (e.g. hazelnuts)

When I eat chocolates that have whole tree nuts inside I usually have an allergic reaction to it. Recently I have discovered that if I eat chocolates with tree nuts inside but it is not the whole nut, e.g. mixed into the chocolate or milk like a Kinder Bueno I don't have an allergic reaction. Why does this happen??
