Allergy?

My 14 mo. old developed vomiting, lethargy, drooling, in coherent like episodes while in the high-chair.  Symptoms progressively got worse.  He had eaten tuna for the 1st time this day.  We are not sure if it is from the tuna or if he got into something.  His symptoms lasted approx. 8 hrs and improved greatly after his stomach was suctioned.  When he was vomiting it was like he was straining to do so.  Just would like an answer.

Thanks!
Angie

Thanks for you reply,  My son is fine now and actually greatly improved after having his stomach suctioned out.  From beginning to almost back to normal was 8 hours.  There is no family history and I believe the tuna was from a can and prepared in a cold tuna, noodle, pea and mayo salad.  No one else at the daycare got sick.As far as if it came on rapidly or not I can't say as he was not in my care but the child care provider says that he started to act different before she took him out of the highchair and things got progressively worse after that.  He also had small pieces of apple and she said he acted like he had one stuck in his throat.  I just wish I had an answer.

Hi,

How is your child?
Is she better?

Food allergies in children commonly present as gastrointestinal disorders ( abdominal pain, bloatedness, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation).

Is there a strong family history of allergies in the family?

Regarding her symptoms:

Did she develop the condition rapidly?

Was the tuna from the can?

Was it washed properly or cooked properly?

Is it fresh tuna?

Anyone else in the family who presented with same symptoms after taking the tuna?

Food poisoning may present with vomiting , change in sensorium, dehydration. But this may also affect other members of the family who ate the food in question.

To determine allergies , a skin ***** testing may help identify the allergens. You may discuss with the pediatrician how this will be done considering that you have a 14 month old child. Most children overcome sensitivity to allergens as they grow older, however this is not true for some cases like in the case of peanut and shell fish allergies.
