Angiodema?? (swollen tongue, lips)

Hi, I'm new here. Just about 2 months ago I began developing strange allergic reactions. They have occurred on my feet, hands, back of knee, upper thigh, lip and now tongue. I have gone to the doctor before and they said it was contact dermatitis. I have not figured out what I'm allergic to yet and am still waiting for a call back from the allergy department. Last night, I woke up at about 3am with a swollen tongue. It really freaked me out. I took 2 Benadryls and thankfully it went down almost back to normal within a couple of hours. When it happened on my lip, it swelled to the size of a grape and the Benadryl took FOREVER to kick in.

Anyway, I went to the doctor this morning and she said swelling like this (tongue, lips) is called angiodema. She said if I continue to expose myself to this allergen (whatever it may be) the next stage could be anaphylaxis.

I'm really scared. I have 2 little kids and I'm terrified of something happening. I can't avoid the allergen if I don't know what it is.:(

Please help.

Thanks,
Becky

I have been diagnoised with an auto immune disease but don't know what is causing it.  @ Lypus test came back positive - two came back negative.  Dr's (all types ) say I have thrush (bacterial infection).  Had biopsy's taken in lower lip which showed thrush which  is caused from bacteria in the system . I had sores & swelling of my mouth for two years until I started taking 'Yeast Cleanse" found in health food stores.  It has rid my mouth of sores but eating out will sometimes cause swelling of the lips and tongue in the mid of night.  - Yeast Cleanse" helps it to clear quickly but I am wondering if there is something in restaurant foods that keep this coming back?

I just stumbled upon this site and I am so thankful! I have felt like I am crazy for years now. I have been diagnosed with idiopathic angioadema. The only time I have ever been in remission is with pregnancy!
It all started in college about 6 years ago. My tongue started swelling and I felt like I could not breath.  I went to the ER and was treated and felt good.  It took me about a week to feel back to normal. Then, it all happened all over again. This went on for about 6 months and I continued to go to the ER every week or two and they thought I was crazy! It is always worse with lack of sleep and stress. I saw many allergy specialist. I have been on Allerga, Zyrtec, Singulair, QVAR inhaler, and nasal sprays and they help, but every fall I become very ill. Every time I go to the doctor for a swollen, sore throat , they say looks like strep, but I always test negative.  I get really run down and nothing helps. Then I go back to the doctor and they say mono. This happens like clock work!
I just started allergy shots and have only had 3 shots and have had an anaphylactic reaction! I stress about my health issues every day and am too afraid to go out of the country. I am also scared to be alone with my children...I feel like anything could happen at any time! Any helpful thoughts or ideas?
