Children suffered from phelgm and mucus since young

Hi, I am a mother of three. My eldest son suffered from irritable phlegm/mucus causing much discomfort since 3 years old.  He had to clear his nose as it is always block with mucus and phlegm. There are times when he cough till dawn. We have tried all types of medications and supplements. He is eight years old now, still suffering from the same problem.  I gave him natural soya milk to replaced milk.

I am just wondering if he is allergy to food or? My house is super clean due to his condition. Now, my youngest daughter, 4 years old is having similar symptom..I am running out of ideas to improved their health.

Hi, welcome to the forum, if all other causes like respiratory tract infection, sinusitis etc. then another important possibility would be cystic fibrosis with predominantly respiratory involvement. But this needs to be evaluated in detail.

Cystic fibrosis is a rare genetic disorder. He need to undergo investigations such as Sweat chloride, Molecular diagnosis and Nasal potential difference measurements to rule out this condition.

The treatment is usually symptomatic. DNase I (dornase alfa), hypertonic saline and N-acetylcysteine are the available to loosen the mucus. I would suggest you to consult physician for further evaluation. Take care and regards.
