Chronic Autoimmune Urticaria - Cyclosporine

Live in the London - help needed, would be good to be speak to someone who has same conditions as me.
Male 37 years.

I have now had CAU for 7months now with not a day that goes by without the hives, I am currently taking fexofendine, loratadine and Ranitadine in the morning and night, these help a little, but during the night they don't touch the hives, I wake every morning covered in hives, its driving me mad.

It started one morning by having a few amount of hives on my leg, it then got worse day by day, sometimes my complete face swelling, taken steroids for a short period of time to clear the rash/hives but then they come back worse one the course is finished.

I am currently under St Thomas hospital for this, they are stating I should take Cyclosporine for 6 months, I was wondering if someone on here has taken this treatment and it has worked for them??, I am not convinced on this medication as I have read so many bad things about it.

My consultant has stated that 70% of people whilst on cyclosporine will be clear, one third will have total remission, one third will be same as before, one third will be worse once the treatment has stopped.

Has anyone tried this treatment??? or know of anything else I can try??

Thanks

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Understand your predicament. Chronic urticaria was defined as having urticaria more than 3 days per week for 6 consecutive weeks. In most cases of chronic hives, a cause is never clearly identified. In some cases, chronic hives may be related to an underlying autoimmune disorder, such as thyroid disease or lupus.

According to a study done, after taking cyclosporine for chronic urticaria at an average dose of 1.8 ± 1.1 mg/kg, 78% of patients attained complete remission. Side effects were generally mild and seen in 35% of patients; all were reversible by dose reduction.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
