Cyclosporine

Has anyone taken cyclosorine for chronic hives? I've had hives on and off since 1992.

Hi,
How are you? Chronic urticaria, especially the autoimmune type, is often resistant to antihistamine treatment. They usually require immunosuppression and medications such as prednisone and cyclosporine may be given. There has been several studies already which have shown effectiveness in using cyclosporine in the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria, who fail to respond to conventional therapy (ref: http://www.e-ijd.org/article.asp?issn=0019-5154;year=2008;volume=53;issue=2;spage=101;epage=102;aulast=Godse).
However, some doctors and researchers find that immunosuppresants are not a good long-term treatment because of possible rebound effect when the steroids are discontinued.  It is best that you check with your doctor for proper management. There is also a previous post here in the forum that may be helpful: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Allergy/Chronic-hives/show/4046
Take care and best regards.

Hi and Welcome ... I am not sure at all but wanted to stop by to welcome you.  My dog (yes, I am serious) takes that med for her autoimmune eye disorder, but I'm not sure of its properties, etc. for hives.
