Desperate For Relief

I am so disgusted with nasal drip, runny nose, chest congestion, and ear itching and crackling.  I cannot get the mucus to come up, but its loose and rattling all the time.  I try to go to sleep, and no matter what side I lay on, I get this whistling and crackling in my ears.  It takes me hours to fall asleep.  I was told years ago that its severe allergies, but I am on so much medication for other things.  I do not want anymore stuff to take.
I was told to use a saline solution for my nose with the spray bottle, and to use it 100 times a day if I have to, and that it would not hurt.  I have tryed Robitussin, Generic Mucinex, hot tea with honey.  I do not know what else to do.
If I bend over my nose runs like a faucet.  I see a lot of other people going through similar problems.  I can really feel for you.

I am no Doctor, just a person with a very similar problem.  I found a treatment that allows me to sleep and not have to cough out that nasty mucus.  this has releived my symtoms to about 90% of the problem.  Please look at my post below and take it from a fat old man that has has terrible trouble from post nasal drip for what it is worth.  Additionally this does not force you to "TAKE" anything.

It sound dorky, but it works and it works well.  Here is his "cure" more treatment.  He talked about the treatment he has as applying a topical antibiotic directly into the nasal cavities.  I have found hat beyond the treatment of sinoitis, it also seems to irritate the mucus membranes and allow for a more watery and less sticky and cloying mucus production.

Here is my post:

I  have had this same problem for about 10 years as well.  To the point of wishing i could simply die.  I progressed to the point of not sleeping for more then 5-10 minutes ever becasue of the choking.  I saw the docs and they all said "I can't help you"
I found an add on the internet that was for treatment of Post Nasad Drip and bought the product -- It was 3 essential Oils. I paid $90 and had to wait for them to arrive and later found I could buy the products online or locally for much less.  What you need is (Cinnimin Spelling) leaf extract, Clove extract, and Thyme extract) and what is called a facial sauna ( one is called a head and chest breath steam at walgreens).  You place a drop or 2 of each in the measured amount of water and allow the device to heat up to produce steam.  You then breath this steam in for about 2-3 minutes.
Understand this process will tell you if you are using enough or not or too much.  Just breath normall inot your nose.  If you cannot breath thru your nose breath thru your mouth eventually your nose will clear after a few days.
Do this treatment every couple hours for the first 2 days then once a day for the next week, then once a week after that.
It was magic for me, after all that choking and hacking to try to clear my throat and lack of sleep, sfter the first day, I slept peacfully for 8 hours.  I had not done that in over 5 years.  This was a godsend.  I hope this helps you as well.

Additionally I found that of ALL the sinus sprays on the market (OTC or PRescribes) only Vics Synex in the mister form have ever helped.

Lastly and perhaps bestly Chocolate.  I am certain by now you have found that water is almost completely ineffectualy at allowing you to clear your throat.  Chocolate seems to make the sticky mucus unable to stick in my throat and allows me to Cough it out.  Kirkland weight loss shakes, or candy, both seem to work well, but the shakes are less hard on your teeth and weight.

I hope this helps

Thank You for all your advice.  There are just a few things that I cannot do.  First of all I have Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, but Thank God I am in remission for 7 years.  They are telling me I have chronic kidney disease, and have to avoid Ibuprofen.  I am very careful what I take so as not to interfere with my Leukemia medication.
I am feeling a little relief today.  I was told by 3 doctors that I do not have sinusitis, and its just allergies.  With everything I have to deal with, it all just gets to me sometimes.  I also have Parathyroid Disease, and thats another whole story.  Thank You for saying I can contact you anytime.

Hello,

All your symptoms are related to post nasal drip. Post-nasal drip (PND) occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or back of the nose. It can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. It can be enhanced or sometimes even caused by allergies.

Pls check out with an ENT specialist if you are having chronic rhinitis or sinusitis. If you have chronic sinusitis then it can lead to continuous production of mucus and less drainage leading to post nasal drip.Transillumination test and X-Ray or CT sinuses can help in diagnosing it. If allergic rhinitis is the cause of PND then it can be diagnosed by skin ***** tests or blood tests like RAST.

Take plenty of fluids throughout the day and inhale steam as many times as possible. . Inhaling steam from a bowl of hot (but not boiling water) may help to soften, and loosen, the build up of mucus in your nose. You may also find that adding some menthol crystals, or eucalyptus oil, to the water, helps to ease your symptoms of catarrh.

use an over-the-counter (OTC) decongestant combined with an anti-inflammatory analgesic (pain reliever) like Ibuprofen. However, you should not use decongestants for more than 5-7 days at a time. You can also OTC antihistaminics like benadryl or zyrtec for some days and see if they provide relief or not. Some chronic cases may need oral steroids or steroid nasal sprays and antibiotics. These can be taken only after prescription.

Allergic rhinitis may need immunotherapy in chronic cases.

Hope I have provided you with sufficient information. In case, you need any more you are most welcome to ask.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.Warm regards.
