Do I really have to live with it?

I have a swollen tongue. It's difficult to breath at times, difficult to talk most of the time (sometimes slur my words), it irritates the hell out of me and I have it for years (3-5?). No over the counter medicine provided any kind of relief, even prescription reactine didn't. I've seen several doctors about this. It took a year to get a family doctor, he referred to allergist on first visit. Two year wait to see the allergist the first time. I've done everything he suggested with no relief. Avoided milk, mold, pork, food coloring (all four are the new ones), dust, pollen, cats, dogs, I understand coloring isn't listed on everything they use it in. Three visits with him and he refuse's to go any further, I have to live with it according to him. As a really young kid I know I had issue's with my thyroid. I have a benign spot on my eyeball, always tired, often not as "up" as I can be, trouble sleeping sometimes, 31 years old and hair isn't sticking around (grandpa still had his when he passed, dad still has his) and my heart acts up once and awhile. Hyperthyroidism? I stumbled across that while researching, allot of the symptoms listed I've had or do have now. Do I have any options with my swollen tongue other than "living with it"? If it irritates me much longer I won't be living at all. Seriously frustrated.

I appreciate your comments. That was the point in seeing the allergist, now he's not willing to go any further.  He was the specialist I was referred to. All my symptoms should be on my file and it's the same file I've had for years. No doctor can explain half my symptoms. I've researched allot over the past few years, did a few things and of course nothing provided any relief. I'm not sure when I'll be in the city again so don't know when I can see my doctor, hopefully he'll do something. I'm hoping to get some help (if possible) via this web site, in the mean time.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

How are you? You may need to have further evaluation to determine if there is underlying medical condition present. To rule out thyroid problems, some tests are done to check the thyroid hormone levels. Your medical history will also help. Be proactive with finding the cause. Talk to your doctor or be referred to a specialist.

Take care and best regards.
