HIVES

Within the last 3 weeks I have been getting hives all over my body; but mostly on my arms. I visited my doctor 2 days ago who gave me an injection and prescribed some pills. He thinks that it could be allergies that I have developed. The hives have continued to appear. What should be causing this? Help me please

I have them also round my neck, top of my arm, I have had them in other  places, I am not sure what causes them I have thought toxicity from dental work I had done, cactus in my garden where I am always weeding etc..unstable sugar levels although not diabetic ..I cannot take the prednisone that is prescribed so I suffer a lot when its bad, I try benydryl but it makes me so drowsy I can hardly stand .Yours does sound like allergy have you checked the detergent you are using I know that these strong concentrated ones are notorious .good luck

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL

Hi, welcome to the forum, symptoms are suggestive of urticaria, secondary to exposure to allergen and mediated by IgE antibodies. Your body is known to hypersensitive to certain things.

Stinging insects, Aeroallergens (uncommon), Foods and additives like Milk, egg, peanuts, nuts, soy, and wheat are the most common agents to cause generalized urticaria in adults.

This triggering factor should be identified and should be avoided. A skin allergy test can be useful.

Treatment includes anti histaminic and glucocorticoids against prescription. Other causes needed to be ruled out are drug reaction, Stevens-Johnson syndrome etc. If drug allergy is suspected you need to discontinue the drug and report to your doctor immediately. I suggest you to consult a skin specialist. Take care and regards.
