Hair Dye Allergy

Swollen, painful, itchy: scalp, neck, upper chest and back. The symptoms are spreading to my arms, arm pits and hands. It has been 10 days since I have used Loving Care by Clairol and my skin is getting worse. My patch test was negative but  I have read that it may take up to 72 hours to react not 48. The day after dying my hair, my eyes were red. itchy and swollen. That subsided. But in the meantime, I am in real misery.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
You have a severe allergic reaction to the dye. This is usually due to PPD OR ParaPhenyleneDiamine. Take any OTC antiallergic such as Benadryl. Wash hair and scalp thoroughly with a mild shampoo and 2% hydrogen peroxide solution. Compress the hair and scalp with potassium permanganate in a 1:5000 dilution, to completely oxidize the PPD. A wet dressing of olive oil and lime may be used. Corticosteroid cream can also be applied. Also consult your doctor immediately regarding this.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I would not use this brand of hair dye. Its obviously a chemical reaction and whatever chemicals used in the product doesn't agree with your body and your definitely having an allergic reaction. You could be recovering but I wouldn't recommend using this product again.
