Hives/welts a problem - Is there something to lessen or get rid of this reaction?

My 24 yr.old daughter has been getting hives/welts ever since she was a toddler. She has a history of asthma induced allergies. Was tested and found to be allergic to eggs, sweet oranges, cats, barn animals, all trees, and grasses.  She now, thinks that she has (outgrown) her asthma and her allergies to eggs and sweet oranges.. Her hives/welts is always present after she has contact with water. No matter the temperature or, be it salt water or non. She had mono. when she was in her 3rd yr. of  college. Do you think could be her underlying problem?  She is now engaged to be married and would like to have some sort of remedy to get rid of this response, or at least lessen them. Can you help?  Thank you

Hello,
Your doctor may be having water urticaria. It occurs due to hypersensitivity of the skin either to the water or to some other constituent present in the water (such as fluoride, chloride, other mineral etc). Treatment options include application of skin creams (such as capsaicin cream), phototherapy with UV light, antihistaminics, and other drugs (such as leukotriene-receptor antagonists, beta blockers etc).

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hello,

Hives are frequently part of an allergic reaction to something.  She needs to see her allergist about this and be advised by them on what to do.  It is possible to be allergic to water.  Perhaps taking an antihistamine would help.

Let us know how she is doing please.

God bless.
