Is Pholcodine a morphine based drug? I took some cough syrup yesterday, I thought my cold was making me feel sleepy and very dizzy but during the night I felt very sick too. I want to know if Pholcodine is causing the symptons, if so need avoid taking it in the future

Hi, welcome to the forum, pholcodiene is opioid drug which is used in the management of pain. This drug is known to have CNS depressant activities i.e. it can make person feel dizzy and sleepy. It can also be associated with dysphoria (unpleasant sensations), bronchospasm (breathing difficulty).

Even allergic reaction can worsen these symptoms. The side effects can be of higher magnitude in some patients. Make sure that you have taken appropriate dosage, otherwise you may have to discontinue the drug and need to take another class of drugs dextromethorphan, guanapheneisn etc. I suggest you to consult your doctor for further management. Take care and regards.

This would be best answered by your dr or pharmacist (chemist).

If Pholcodine has codeine in it that could cause the sleepiness and dizzines.  Codeinne, like morphine, is a derivative of opium.  It would be possible that you had an allergic reaction, but I am thinking it was more just the normal side effects of codeine.  It would really depend on what you mean by "felt very sick".

I suggest you call your doctor of pharmacist and tell them ALL your symptoms and see what they think.

Take care and feel better.
