Wouldn't you think my ENT doctor would know about these tests that you mentioned and do them? ( Flavor discrimination test and Somatosensory testing). And shouldn't her also know about the drugs you mentioned ( Class of drugs like proton pump inhibitors and certain benzodiazepine). He has never metioned any of this. He just gives me antiboitics and sort of throws up his hands. Should I seek another ENT? Any suggestions in the Atlanta, GA area?
Hi, welcome to the forum, the loss of taste and smell is commonly encountered with allergic rhinitis, nonallergic rhinitis, rhinosinusitis, and nasal polyposis with certain drugs or zinc deficiency.
It requires relief of the obstruction and treatment of the accompanying infection, if present. You need to undergo the test for Flavor discrimination test and Somatosensory testing to know the extent of involvement.
Class of drugs like proton pump inhibitors and certain benzodiazepine have shown alleviate this symptom and should be taken after consultation from a physician. Take care and regards.
