I found out the hard way in January that I have a severe allergy to sulfa antibiotics. It was hives head to toe for weeks and nothing really helped, I just had to wait it out. Well now that's gone but my system still isn't back to normal. I've switched, per a dermatologist's advice, to free and clear products, but four months down the road my hives have become chronic. I break out every afternoon, some days worse than others, and the only product that helps at all is benadryl, which makes me so drowsy I can't function. And now on top of that my sinuses have started closing up around the same time as I break out. Nothing new in my environment except that it's spring and things have finally started warming up. I understand pollen for my nasal symptoms (I have had reactions in the past to pollen from the giant pine tree outside my window, which isn't producing it just now) but for it to crop up exactly the same time as my skin symptoms, it makes me wonder if it's connected somehow. It' making me utterly miserable during the only time of day I'm not at work! If I'm not itching and sneezing, I'm passed out from benadryl. Please help me understand this, is it all connected to the sulfa? And what else can I be doing about it? Even if I had insurance, I couldn't afford to see an allergist. Any ideas?
