Low Grade Fevers with Allergy Shots

Has anyone else experienced fevers after receiving allergy injections?  I have been getting shots weekly since last June and the last several months I have had low-grade fevers and fatigue almost weekly.  I started charting my temperatures when I felt bad and noticed that it seemed to happen 3 or 4 days after my shots.  I was off shots for 3 weeks due to travels and felt pretty good during that time, then I got 2 shots within 4 days of each other when I got back and developed a 102 fever that was really horrible for over 2 days.

My allergist said that a fever of anything less that 102 was nothing to worry about, but that's not very helpful because even a 100 degree fever is enough to land me in bed for a day.  My regular doctor ran blood tests and did a blood culture but everything looks normal.  I hate to do more expensive tests when I'm thinking it may be related to the shots.  I have about 8 more shots until I reach maintenance dose, so hopefully all of this will get better when I am getting the shots less frequently.

Hello,

Although fatigue and flu like symptoms are uncommon side effects of allergy shots, but they can be confirmed after ruling out other causes of low grade fever like chronic infections, liver disease,SLE etc.

I would recommend discussing this issue with your allergist and also getting a comprehensive profile of yourself for other causes of fever and low grade fever.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.

Hi ! I have Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome and one of my problems due to CFS was severe allergies. I had allergy injections in the '90s and like you, I didn't tolerate the injections very well. In my case, I had extreme fatigue and flu like symptoms after every allergy shot. I never did have the local reaction in my upper arm like most people have after getting their shots.

Despite my the advice from my allergist, I eventually chose to quit the injections altogether. Years later, another allergist told me that I made the right choice. (this was even before my CFS diagnosis).

I have learned that patients who have allergies have options. Sublingual therapy is one such option. It is a method of allergy treatment that has been used in Europe for many years. You may want to consider asking your allergiest about sublingual therapy. I hear that it is available in the U.S. now.
