I think your GP doesn't have a clue about tinnitus. That's okay - I've been to two Ear, Nose & Throat "specialists" and they didn't have a clue either.

I "DO" have nasal congestion and treat myself with saline solution sprays and, if absolutely necessary, I will use Nasonex, but, trust me, neither has any effect at all on my tinnitus ... just my sinuses.

Good luck. There is hope. I will post more when time allows.

Are you exposed to loud noises or are you taking up some medications recently?  Is there hypertension or any other existing condition? Trust in your doctor, for whatever reasons he may have seen or observed during your consult with him as well as his knowledge of your past medical history, to give you the said drug. Please do update us in 2 weeks time if the sounds you hear will disappear.

Take care and regards.

Nope no congested nose or sinus problems at all.. I had this problem for about 4 weeks now ..and the GP I'm seeing here put me on Nasonex he said could be in my sinus since he look into my ears and they were clean. I'm 53 years old .no ringing . but hear people talk again like a echo..plus the sound of putting a sea shell up to my hear..I learn to put the tv on really loud .than doesn't bug me as much..he said if still there after two weeks of using Nasonex than would send me to a ear doctor.thx for your answer

How are you? Do you have congested nose? How long have you been experiencing this? Tinnitus is a sensation of noise, as a ringing or roaring,  a symptom that can be caused by a number of medical conditions. Tinnitus may be the result of age-related hearing loss or ear injury, or it may be an indication of a disease of your circulatory system. Many medications have been tried to relieve tinnitus with varying degrees of success. Treatment consists mostly of managing the problem. Your doctor can discuss with you steps you can take every day to reduce the severity of the noise or to better cope with the noise.

I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
