Yes - if you research Linseed allergy (flax is the same thing as linseed) you can find lots of info about linseed causing anaphylactic shock in some people.
I have it. Within 2 minutes or so of swallowing even the DUST of flax or a tiny bit of oil (as in - taking a pill that had been stored next to a pill that had flax in it) - my stomach feels HORRIBLE, my throat burns and starts swelling. after that my face flushes and my ears and lips begin to throb.
you will need to see an allergist because each time you're exposed to it now - the reaction will be worse. you will probably need to get an epi-pen (epinephrine) just like people with peanut or shellfish allergies - especially since flax/linseed isn't usually labeled all the time and people think it's good for you (that's why i took a fish oil pill that had it in there).
I recently bought a couple boxes of Eggland's Best Organic Eggs...I was eating them regularly for a few days and I noticed that my tongue was getting swollen...It freaked me out [I didn't know it was the eggs, yet]...I pretty much stopped eating [I only had water, some bread and a few veggies]...my tongue almost went back to normal and then I made myself some french toast using the same eggs...5-10 minutes later, my tongue got swollen again...I freaked out...I was 99% sure, it was the ages. I began my research today and I found out that they feed the chickens with flax seeds and a small quantity ends up in the yolk. Anyway, I am going to a doctor and an allergist this friday and get checked up...My tongue is still swollen [2 days passed]...Also, my stomach was upset during this time, even though, I decreased my food intake...Has that happened to anyone?
Correction typo ... Not sure if the "20"
It was 25 min since I took antihistamine. Doing better.
The pill ingredients were
Flax,
Gelatin (non-bovine),
Glycerin,
d-Alpha Tocopherol.
It's been 25 minutes since I took antihistamine. Not sure if the 20 minutes helped or if the antihistamine helped. But I am breathing ok again and my other allergies went away mostly too. My stomach still feels like I swallows heavy sand. The nausea is gone too. Just stomach cramping now. :(
Just for the record I never had flaxseed oil in any form. I just tried it for the first time in a pill. As you can read it didn't go over well in my stomach.
If you're having a food allergy coming on is it a good idea if with in 15 minutes to force to throw up? Like with peanut/shellfish ect... Anything since some of it will still be in your stomach?
I just took antihistamine. It's getting harder to breathe with the abdominal pressure. :( I don't know if it is just nausea doing all this or if it's an allergy. Never using flaxseed oil again.
