What to do about prolonged allergy reaction

We are currently traveling, since around 6 days ago my wife suddenly had a allergic reaction to something causing her to break out in red spots (without bumps) on her arm joints, knee caps, foot and hands which itches and swells. She has been taking claritan D and benedryl but that helps only a little. Yesterday she went to the ER and they gave her an IV with an antihistamine and anti inflammatory corticosteroid with 2 days worth of the same in pill form. She just finished all the pills

Today she was better but as soon she she went out and the temperature changed, the red bumps and itchy feeling came back. On another day she was fine for the whole day until she took a shower. We are extremely frustrated with this since we are still traveling and this does not seem to be resolving itself. We have pretty much eliminated anything new she has came into contact with in terms of food, clothing, products etc. What should we do at this point if antihistamine drugs only helps temporarily and it has been a week?

check out environmental allergies, she could have a heavy metal test done to see if there are toxins in her blood. I too get varying symptoms and have put mine down to the toxins from the aerial spraying that is going on in most states. worth doing some research and check it out. Where I live many have dry coughs, dizziness, scratchy throat sore itchy eyes.some fatigue.

My allergies have been flaring up since late Jan, on and off.  I hope she feels better soon.

Thanks for the reply, I really do appreciate it. Just got her on Zyrtec today and that makes her sleepy. It seems whatever she was allergic to is running its course as its been a week and any change in temperature is now causing her to have hives

Hi there, I understand your frustration because I've been going through this for two weeks now.  My allergic reaction started when I ate a fry that was mixed with shrimps.  Sure enough the bloodwork showed I'm allergic go shrimp.  Claritin and benadryl won't do much.  She can try allegra and I've been told zyrtec is good.  Allegra makes me super drowsy and causes muscle aches but everyone tolerates it differently.  She should see an allergist.  The allergist might prescribe singulair.  It works great on ky daughter but causes me anxiety.  I've tried chamomile tea and it helps a bit, with no sugar though.  Keep me updated, I know the feeling.  I've lost lots of weight avoiding processed foods and other foods.  Oh and when she showers it should be quick and cool, with dove for sensitive skin, unscented.  To dry her skin she should tap it only and cerave cream is good too for the itchiness.  Vaseline helps too
