Should I go to the Doctor over a Bleach Allergic Reaction??

So a few days ago I bleached my hair... right? But I noticed after I washed it and it dryed it felt kind of burning/itching/hurting. I figured maybe some of the stuff might still be om my scalp so I went to go rinse it. But I still felt that feeling on my scalp area so I put some olive oil on it everyday before I went to been hoping it would help and it was just a dry scalp but that didnt make much sense to me since my hair its self is soft and didnt seem to be damaged but I felt like it was a little bit thinner. My hair isnt falling out or any of the other myths that come along with bleaching hair but its just my scalp thats the problem. Now today is saturday and it pretty much feels the same to me. I have no idea what to do and it kind of bothers me. Do you recommend I go to the doctor/hospital???

you could also use cortizone10 to help with the itching or any rash topical treatment over the counter it relieves the itching faster and take benadryl as well how long did it take for your reaction to fully go away

I too had a bad reaction to bleaching my hair last year. My palms were red and started to itch, also my arms, legs and vagina. I started to panic. Then I noticed my arms had hives and my face was going red. I had to get out of there. I told the hairdressers to wash it out...they didn't think anything of it. Top half of my hair was bleach and the bottom half was black. The bleach hadn't even been on for 30 minutes. I didn't get my hair cut either, which I was meant to. They charged me over $150.00 AUD and I had to make another appointment to have my hair cut which ended up costing me $36.00 AUD. I'd been bleaching my hair for years and never had anything like this happen to me before. I couldn't understand why this was happening. I drove myself to the hospital where they gave me 3 Phenergan tablets and 2 cortisone tablets. I had been on minocycline for my sebaceous cysts. Had the medication triggered this reaction? Not too sure. I left work early the next day due to burning up and took myself back to the hospital and my doctor put me on cortisone tablets for 5 days. They worked. The next time I had my hair done, they dyed the roots black...no reaction. The last two times my new hair dresser dyed the roots with bleach..and besides your normal reaction, I got home and my forehead and scalp felt like it was all swollen. Here I am having a panic attack so I popped 2-3 Phenergan tablets which the swelling went down. However it still felt swollen for a good week. I am now absolutely terrified. I love the blonde..and I now only have a little bit in my fringe.

I had the same problem this time around with bleaching my hair. The last two times were fine other than the general nuisance of itching which is normal. This time around my palms started itching like crazy, then my neck. Then I noticed hives starting on my palms, chest, and face. Then came the shivering and nausea and worse, difficultly taking a deep breath. Thankfully my hairdresser had Benadryl and knew the symptoms. The benadryl helped correct the symptoms. My scalp feels really tight still. Curious, will you be bleaching it again in a few weeks? I decided to change my color :0(

I find pharmacists very helpful too, redipsx.  I once got a bad reaction from
using a certain brand of shampoo. I broke out in what felt like big bumps on
my head. I stopped using the product and the bumps went away. I told my
mom at the time and she told me she thought it was an allergic reaction to
the shampoo. I have sensitive skin. You don't need to go the doctor necessarily. It sounds like you were allergic to the bleach you used on
your hair if your scalp felt like it was burning and itching. My hairdresser
also told me not to wash your hair up to two days before you plan to
color it. It's actually better to color your hair while its dirty. You did the right
thing going to a pharmacist.

of course it was laundry bleach!!! O_O but I ended up going to a pharmasist last night and the man at the counter said that it sounds like a allergic reaction on my scalp but it should be just fine and calm down in a few more days. he recommended i take some benadryl and so far it has been a lot better. im just waiting for my scalp to kind of heal and calm down from the bleach. but thank you anyways. if anyone else is reading this i recommend taking benadryl like i did if the allergic reaction isnt EXTREME and is only some itching and burning. you can also go to a doctor to get their opinion if you would like, because i know going to the pharmasist helped me feel a lot better. although if you are reading this and have had a allergic reaction to bleach to the point you break out in a rash or anything else i highly recommend going to the doctor.

What kind of bleach did you use?  I hope a hair preparation not some laundry bleach.

If you break out in a rash, itch (other, can't think of them at the moment) on parts of your body that were not in contact with the bleach, then I think you have an allergic reaction and should be check.  If it is just the skin that was in contact was in contact with the bleach it may just be a skin irritation which should pass with time.
