Sore throat for a long time

So, I have a little bit of a problem on my hands. Before May last year i had just gotten over my second sinus infection that year and although i got a lot better my throat stayed mildly irritated and has been mildly irritated till now. I don't know what it's from my parents suspect its from allergies and i went to the ENT who said he couldn't see anything wrong with my throat and it could be from allergies, and if i was miserable enough they'd take out my tonsils. My question is what do you think? I've been driven crazy by this and I have a few theories as to where its coming from one of them is that it could be caused by my wisdom teeth not being removed which have been growing in and been recommended to be removed almost a year ago and I think might be causing the problem, or it could just be allergies as my sinuses now sometimes get a little stuffy. Please help.

Thank you for your help Dr. =), I doubt it is an infection though because i've had this for about 4-5 months but the ENT did mention Chronic Tonsillitis what is it and how do I know if I have it?? What about hyperplastic tonsil as well??

Hi, welcome to the forum, the commonest cause of sore throat or irritation is infection like chronic pharyngitis or chronic tonsillitis. If infection present, you need empirical treatment with a course of broad spectrum antibiotic against prescription. Send blood or throat swab for culture and antibiotic sensitivity. Need to do antiseptic mouth gargle to take care of source of infection.

There are other causes needed to be ruled out are laryngo esophageal reflux, irritative pharyngitis (due to dryness of throat), certain chemical exposure, other source of infection etc... If chronic tonsillitis or hyperplastic tonsil then tonsillectomy will help. Acid reflux needs a treatment with antacids and proton pump inhibitors.  I suggest you to consult a physician as well a Dermatologist for evaluation and prescription. Take care and regards.

I suggest that you see an allergist.  They would know if it is allergy related and be better able to treat the cause than just the symptom.  Tonsilectomy is not an easy procedure for an adult and has greater risks than it does for children.  I would explore all other options before having that procedure done.  Usually it is only done in adults if the patient is having LOTS of infections.

I doubt it is the wisdome teeth, but it would be worth having them taken out to see.  Wisdom teeth that do not grow in straight can cause LOTS of oral complications.

I hope that helps you.
